World Athletics Championships

The global sports event scheduled to be held at Tokyo’s National Stadium in September 2025 is the World Athletics Championships. Top athletes from around the world will gather to compete for the title of world’s best in a variety of track and field events.

Nepal

At the Osaka-Kansai Expo, construction of several pavilions—including those from the three countries listed as options—was not completed in time, and they remained unopened at the start of the event. By May 1, construction was completed one after another, leaving only the Nepal Pavilion and the Angola Pavilion unopened. The Angola Pavilion opened on June 26 (updated July 1, 2025).

The number of visitors on the opening day of the Osaka-Kansai Expo was about 140,000. By May 3, the cumulative number of visitors had surpassed 2.13 million. Attendance is expected to grow toward the finale, with a final target of 28.2 million visitors.

In March 2025, the Tokyo District Court ordered the dissolution of the former Unification Church. This marks the third instance in Japan of a religious organization receiving a dissolution order due to legal violations, following Aum Shinrikyo and Myokakuji.

Renoir

The only Japanese film selected for the Competition section of the 78th Cannes Film Festival is Renoir. Its director, Chie Hayakawa, submitted Plan 75 to the Un Certain Regard section at the 75th Cannes Film Festival in 2022 and won the Camera d’Or for best first feature.
