Toyoake City

In Toyoake City, Aichi Prefecture, an ordinance setting a guideline of up to two hours per day for smartphone use outside of work, housework, and studying will take effect in October 2025. This is the first ordinance in Japan to provide a guideline on smartphone usage time. The initiative aims to address sleep deprivation and insufficient communication within families and to avoid hindering children’s healthy development. The ordinance does not include any enforcement measures or penalties.

Crowning Ceremony

The traditional ceremony performed when a male member of the Imperial Family reaches adulthood is the Crown-bestowal Ceremony (Kakan no Gi). In September 2025, Prince Hisahito reached adulthood, and the ceremony was held. During the Kakan no Gi, the Emperor presents a crown as proof of coming of age.
