Debut songs by female artists from the 1980s

I’ve put together the debut songs of female singers who colored the music scene of the ’80s, such as Yumi Arai, Miyuki Nakajima, and Ann Lewis.

Many people will be reminded of their youth when they listen to these songs.

Great songs remain in our hearts even after decades.

Please give them a listen.

Love is balance.PRINCESS PRINCESS

Before they started using the name Princess Princess, they had already released songs, but Koi wa Balance became Puri-Puri’s first single.

They were pioneers among Japanese girls’ bands and remain memorable to this day.

This is the debut song of Aming, a two-person duo who won the championship at the pop music contest popularly known as Popcon, once hosted by Yamaha Music.

The sound is notable for its beautiful harmonies, and the composer wrote it while still a university student.

girlGorin Mayumi

Mayumi Itsuwa’s debut song, created with her exceptional composing sense and supple vocal ability, was even described as the “Japanese Carole King” during overseas recording.

The melody certainly carries a Carole-like atmosphere, but of course she would go on to develop a distinctly original compositional style thereafter.

As a debut single for an idol, the title is a bit questionable, and the style might not quite match her singing voice.

Of course, as you know, she went on to do extremely well, and despite her slender frame, her powerful voice made her highly sought after as a musical theater singer after graduating from her idol career.

A gifted artist, Miyuki Nakajima has continued to pursue a one-and-only form of expression since the ’80s—and beyond—while achieving the kind of commercial success befitting a major star.

This video is a cover, but it still captures that distinctly her kind of melancholy atmosphere.

A heartrending love song that was also used as the theme for the TBS drama “Friday Wives.” But it’s surprising that this was their debut single.

The expressive power felt like something only a seasoned veteran could deliver.

It’s amazing how it still makes you feel that ache even now.

This is the debut song released under the name Yumi Arai by the brilliantly talented musician who, as Yumi Matsutoya—known as Yuming—left an indelible mark on the history of Japanese pop.

Although this video is a performance from much later, the legend began with this very song.
