A FAT WRECK: A Fat Wreck

NOFX is a punk band that enjoys immense popularity among melodic hardcore fans in Japan as well.
Their final show on October 6, 2024—bringing an end to nearly 40 years of activity—remains fresh in our memories.
Fat Wreck Chords, the label run by NOFX’s Fat Mike, holds a vital place in the history of American punk rock.
It has launched numerous great bands, and even Japan’s Hi-STANDARD achieved their breakthrough as a kind of reverse import from this very label.
This film is a documentary tracing 25 years of Fat Wreck Chords, offering rare footage that follows both the label’s successes and its struggles from the 2000s onward.
Without this label, today’s punk scene would almost certainly be very different.
If you have even a passing interest in melodic hardcore, this is absolutely a must-see.
All the Streets Are Silent: New York (1987–1997) — The Convergence of Hip-Hop and Skateboarding

Hip-hop and skateboarding share the common trait of being cultures born from the streets, but in the early days there was distance between them, and there were even times when they were at odds.
From the late 1980s on, the two began actively interacting, and in the 1990s—bolstered by the blockbuster success of the classic film “KIDS”—New York’s street culture broke out onto the global stage.
If you want to learn about that history of the streets, I highly recommend watching this work.
In addition to valuable interview footage from key figures, it seems to be an important piece for understanding the intertwined histories of both scenes that were hard to access in Japan.
It also comes with Japanese subtitles on Amazon Prime, and it’s a must-see not only for music fans but also for anyone interested in brands like Supreme!
A Masso + KID FRESINO “QO”

The event “QO,” which made waves as a new kind of show blending music and comedy, has been captured in A Masso + KID FRESINO “QO.” It features the comedy duo A Masso and rapper/trackmaker KID FRESINO.
The program is structured so you can enjoy A Masso’s sketches and KID FRESINO’s tracks in alternation.
It’s an unprecedented attempt, so start by checking it out for yourself.
D.O.A.

D.O.A.
is a documentary about famous punk bands that was released in theaters in the 1980s.
It features footage of bands that were active in the late 1970s, including the Sex Pistols, the Dead Boys, and Generation X.
While the film mainly focuses on the Sex Pistols’ American tour, it’s packed with raw, uncensored scenes you’d never see on TV.
A must-see for fans! And even if you’re a punk lover who didn’t grow up in that era, you’ll get to experience a different side of punk.

This film follows blues musicians in the American South and lets you feel the history of the blues—something every fan should check out.
It’s directed by Canadian filmmaker Daniel Cross, and features many leading artists from the blues world, including Bobby Rush and Barbara Lynn.
Even if you’ve never listened to the blues, why not etch one strand of music history into your eyes and ears with this film?
