Night of ThirteenFujita Makoto

Raised in Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, the renowned actor Makoto Fujita—well known for the Hissatsu Shigotonin series—was also popular as a singer.

In addition to this song, he released many kayōkyoku (Japanese popular songs), including Tsuki ga Waratterā, Tenamonya Sandogasa, and Tomo… Soshite Jinsei.

TrampWest Road Blues Band

Formed in 1972 mainly by members of a Doshisha University club in Kyoto, the West Road Blues Band, together with Osaka’s Yūkadan, became a driving force in the Kansai blues scene.

Centered around the husky vocals of Takashi “Hotoke” Nagai and two contrasting star guitarists, Shinji Shioji and Junji Yamagishi, the song’s cool groove still sounds fresh today.

Quruli is a band that has relentlessly pursued the possibilities of music since forming in Kyoto in 1996.

Rooted in rock, their ever-shifting sound incorporates diverse genres such as jazz, classical, and electronica.

They made their major-label debut in 1998 with the single “Tokyo,” and cemented their popularity with songs like “Bara no Hana,” which was also the theme song for the film Josee, the Tiger and the Fish.

The poetic vocals of Shigeru Kishida and the supple bass lines woven by Masashi Sato create a truly one-of-a-kind groove—at times gently swaying the body, at times offering an intellectually thrilling excitement.

Since 2007, they have also hosted their annual festival, Kyoto Ongaku Hakurankai (Kyoto Music Expo), among many other activities.

They’re the perfect band for listeners who want both the mellow sway reminiscent of city pop and Black music and the pleasures of experimental sound.

UNCHAIN, from Kyotango City in Kyoto Prefecture, formed in 1996 and made their major debut in 2005.

This song, featuring Chihiro Onitsuka, is included on a collaborative album created to commemorate the band’s 20th anniversary.

They have released numerous cover songs, all of which are outstanding.

Formed in Kyoto City in 1985, Kamaitachi made their major debut the year after releasing their first album.

This song, Hachamecha Hime, was used as the theme song for the TV anime Tsuruhime ja!? and reached No.

14 on the Oricon charts.

Do you remember?Kazusa

“Do You Remember?” is Kazusa’s fourth single, released in 2012.

Kazusa is a singer-songwriter from Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture.

The song was used in a special movie collaboration: “Do You Remember?” × “55 Things to Do Before Your Parents Die.” It features a very beautiful singing voice.

A comic folk band formed by Kuniaki Shimizu and Noburo Harada during their time at Kyoto Sangyo University.

They’re now fully grown adults each active in their own pursuits, but as someone from Kyoto, they might be a source of quiet pride.
