When you hear “an artist from Toyama,” who comes to mind?

It’s exciting to discover musicians from your hometown—whether they’re singers active in the J-pop scene, singer-songwriters, rock bands, and more!

And beyond music, Toyama has produced many distinctive figures, such as manga artist Fujiko F.

Fujio and YouTuber Hajime Syacho.

While researching, I also came across some surprising discoveries that made me think, “Oh, really?!”

Rika Nakai, who was also active as a member of the idol group NGT48, is from Toyama Prefecture.

She joined as a first-generation member of NGT48 and was the only member from Toyama in the group.

“Max Toki 315-go,” included on Type-D of AKB48’s 43rd single “Kimi wa Melody,” was the first single track she participated in.

Perhaps her image is stronger as an actress than as a singer, but Jun Fubuki is from Toyama City in Toyama Prefecture.

She is a renowned actress who has appeared in numerous works, including the films Phoenix (Hi no Tori) and The Eternal Zero, and the TV drama Hahmidareshikeiji Jounetsu-kei.

She also participated as a voice actor in the Studio Ghibli films Tales from Earthsea and From Up on Poppy Hill.

She debuted as a singer in 1974, releasing four singles and three albums.

It may be a bit surprising, but in fact her singing debut came before her acting debut.

Kunihiko Narita, who is active as a member of the music group The King Tones, is from Takaoka City in Toyama Prefecture.

One of their signature songs, “Good Night Baby,” peaked at No.

2 on the Oricon charts and remained in the Top 20 for 12 weeks.

Singer-songwriter Hanage no Mori, who promotes the concept of “shedding idealism” and is active under that banner, is from Tonami City in Toyama Prefecture.

His hallmark is a lyrical worldview with a powerful message—delving into the shadowy side of human nature, or rather, unvarnished truths.

Although the style and melodies of his songs are very catchy, each word ends up piercing you all the more.

He has also appeared on variety shows such as Out x Deluxe, so many of you may have seen him.

Miyuki Oda, who has been active as a singer, is from Nyuzen Town in Toyama Prefecture.

In 1996, she won the championship on NHK’s Nodo Jiman held in Kurobe City, and the following year she moved to Tokyo to pursue a singing career.

She won the Grand Prix at the 1st New Singer Audition in 1999 and made her debut as a singer in 2004.

She released Hokuriku Fuyu Monogatari as her 7th single.
