My GirlChilliwack

Do you know Chilliwack, the legendary Canadian rock band? Formed in 1970, they are known for their diverse musical style based on psychedelic and progressive rock, later incorporating elements of pop rock and hard rock.
Their 1973 single “Lonesome Mary” reached the Canadian Top 10, and their 1977 album “Dreams, Dreams, Dreams” was certified platinum, marking their peak from the late ’70s to the early ’80s.
In 1982, they won the JUNO Award for Producer of the Year, and in 2019 they were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
Having left a shining legacy in Canada’s rock history, their music is recommended for rock fans of all ages.
Sweet JaneCowboy Junkies

Since releasing their debut album, Whites Off Earth Now!!, in 1986, Cowboy Junkies have continued their steady, unhurried activity without any lineup changes, and in 2020 they released Ghosts, their latest work as of 2021.
Unfortunately, their recognition in Japan is admittedly low, but their music is rooted in Americana traditions like country and blues, and they’ve consistently made music that stands apart from passing trends.
If you’re listening to them for the first time, I recommend their landmark second album, The Trinity Session, a signature work that found success not only in their native Canada but also in the United States.
Even before the alternative rock era arrived, they crafted a sound world that, as mentioned, offers a contemporary interpretation of roots music such as blues, country, and folk—what today is often described as alt-country.
You won’t find much of the earthy grit often associated with American musicians in the best sense; instead, Margo Timmins’s beautiful vocals convey a certain urban sophistication.
Their cover of the Velvet Underground’s classic among classics, Sweet Jane, is exquisite!
Mmm Mmm Mmm MmmCrash Test Dummies

Crash Test Dummies, from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, are a rock band formed in 1989.
They achieved international breakthrough success with their 1993 single “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm.” Brad Roberts’s distinctive bass-baritone voice is striking, and their music ranges widely from acoustic folk to electric alternative.
They signed with BMG Records in 1991 and became popular in Canada that same year with the single “Superman’s Song.” Heavily influenced by XTC, they have actually covered two of the band’s songs.
In 2015, they released “Promised Land,” marking a restart.
They’re a band I highly recommend for fans of folk rock.
KaputtDestroyer

Destroyer is a band led by singer-songwriter Dan Bejar from Vancouver.
In their early days they were a lo-fi rock band, but starting with the album Kaputt, which includes the track I’m introducing here, they drastically transformed their sound.
They crafted a beautiful, fragile music that blends deeply reverberant textures—akin to chillwave—with the romantic tones of saxophone and trumpet.
This music received widespread acclaim around the world and was selected for several year-end best albums lists by music magazines.
New Girl NowHoneymoon Suite

Honeymoon Suite, formed in 1982 and based in Niagara Falls, Canada, is a band known for its unique sound that blends ’80s hard rock and pop rock.
Songs from their 1984 debut album, Honeymoon Suite, became hits and quickly drew widespread attention.
In 1986, their acclaimed album The Big Prize went platinum, and they won the Juno Award for Group of the Year.
They also shared the stage with major artists like Billy Idol and Heart.
With energetic guitar riffs and catchy melodies, their music is highly recommended for anyone who wants to fully experience the vibe of ’80s rock.
SuburbsJunior Achiever

Junior Achiever, a pop-punk band from Canada, is fronted by former Killjoys drummer Gene Champagne.
They released their debut album, All the Little Letdowns, in 2007 and gained attention when their songs were featured on the Canadian TV show Degrassi: The Next Generation.
Their sound is melodic, reminiscent of Weezer and early Blink-182, and their lyrics—depicting suburban life and the feelings of youth—resonate with many listeners.
They strike a great balance between bright, catchy melodies and insightful lyrics, and their summer-anthem-like tracks are sure to lift your spirits.
Highly recommended for fans of pop punk.
JulieLes Colocs

Les Colocs, known as a shining presence on the Canadian rock scene, formed in Montreal in 1990 and drew attention for their distinctive sound in Quebec French.
Their 1993 debut album, Les Colocs, was a major hit, selling over 150,000 copies.
That same year, they won four Félix Awards at the ADISQ Gala, a testament to their highly regarded talent.
Their music blends a wide range of elements—brass, swing, country, blues, and African music—resulting in a genre-defying appeal.
In 1998, they released the acclaimed album Dehors novembre in collaboration with the Diouf brothers from Senegal.
Although they disbanded in 2000, their music continues to be cherished by many.
