Last updated:

An event kids absolutely love: Christmas! Getting excited about presents from Santa, enjoying delicious food and cake—it’s the best night of the year! Some of you might be decorating your rooms with a Christmas vibe to lift the mood.

So this time, to boost that festive feeling even more, we’ve put together some kids’ costume ideas perfect for Christmas! From classic outfits to popular anime characters, there’s a wide variety.

Some costumes can be handmade, too, so they’re great for those who love DIY!

Perfect for Christmas! Costume Ideas for Kids (1–10)

Ultraman

For the Showa generation, it’s the original Ultraman; for the Heisei generation, is Mebius or Ginga more popular? In the Reiwa era, maybe Trigger or Blazar.

Ultraman remains an eternal hero across eras, and I think Ultraman cosplay is hugely popular with kids in the Reiwa generation too.

For the face, you can use a mask sold at festivals or large toy stores.

It’s common to hand-make just the costume part, I think.

For girls, prepare the uniforms of the female team members who support Ultraman.

Everyone can even play an impromptu game of Ultraman together.

Wally

Even in the world of cosplay, Wally has gone beyond being a fad and become a staple.

Of course, he’s the character who jumped out of Martin Handford’s picture book “Where’s Wally?”—but we don’t even need that introduction anymore.

Above all, his red-and-white striped outfit is iconic.

Since shirts with that pattern are hard to find, you might try making one yourself with colored tape.

You’ll also want a red-and-white striped knit cap.

Surprisingly, having a walking stick really makes you look more like Wally, so if you can swing it, definitely add one!

clown

A clown cosplay is perfect for the lively atmosphere of Christmas.

There are many types of clown outfits, such as skirt styles and pants styles, so choosing a design should be a fun time, too.

Store-bought costumes are great, and handmade ones are lovely as well.

You can also use kid-friendly face paints that wipe off easily to draw patterns on the face like a clown.

If you prepare a store-bought afro wig, you can create even more of a clown vibe.

It looks like you’ll be able to pull off a cute, unique clown cosplay.

Minnie Mouse

When you think of a red skirt with white polka dots, Minnie Mouse comes to mind, doesn’t it? Minnie Mouse is a Disney character loved by children, so a cosplay of her would surely delight them.

Family and friends should definitely try Mickey Mouse cosplay as well.

Seeing kids dressed as Minnie Mouse and Mickey Mouse is something adults will surely enjoy too.

Of course, besides Mickey, Donald Duck and Daisy are also great choices.

Handmade costumes are wonderful, and there are plenty of ready-made ones available too, so be sure to check them out.

Rabbits are animals that are popular with children.

Let’s try using rabbits—with their distinctive long ears and fluffy fur—as a cosplay theme.

If you’re confident in your DIY skills, you can make your own items by hand.

You can also use materials sold at 100-yen shops, which is easy on the wallet.

A rabbit headpiece you wear on your head that makes the most of those long ears is a simple way to try cosplay.

For the color of the rabbit headpiece, pink or blue as well as white suit the Christmas vibe and are recommended.

Santa

When it comes to Christmas cosplay, Santa Claus is the classic choice.

However, many people may feel that simply wearing the standard Santa outfit isn’t very exciting.

That’s why I recommend making your own Santa costume with a creative twist.

There are many variations: a one-piece dress style or a mini-skirt look can give off a stylish vibe.

Be sure to check out YouTube videos for inspiration and give it a try.

Some Santa costumes can even be made using only items from 100-yen shops!

reindeer

reindeer

When it comes to Christmas characters, reindeer are such a staple that they’re almost as famous as Santa.

Even without a full-body costume, you can easily cosplay just by adding antler accessories—something busy parents will appreciate.

If you’re good at DIY, making the antlers yourself is also recommended.

When crafting, try pairing a hat that goes on the head with antlers made from sparkly paper or glitter for an even cuter finish.

Give it a try!
