The key is the finger movement at the moment of penetration: for just a split second, you also use your middle finger to pinch the cigarette.
This creates a gap on the thumb side, allowing the cigarette to pass through.
A tip to make it look even more impossible is to avoid bumping the cigarette against the fingers as it goes through.

It’s a magic trick where, when you place a lit cigarette into your hand, you neither get burned nor does the cigarette remain visible—it seems to vanish.

or so it seems—another cigarette appears! No matter how many times you repeat the same sequence of putting it in, a new cigarette keeps coming out.
The trick is simple: you just stick a cigarette behind your thumb with double-sided tape—right in the blind spot of the viewer.
You make it look like you’re placing it into the backpack, then hide it behind your thumb and pull your hand out.
You quickly produce that cigarette, put it into the backpack again, hide another one behind your thumb, and pull your hand out—the same cycle over and over.
It’s simple, yet it still fools you.
