Lovely cheer song

A song that won’t lose to COVID-19

The spread of the coronavirus has affected just about everyone.

Because of it, we live in a world where we have to give up many things in various parts of life—at home, at work, and at school.

We can’t fully enjoy what we love, we can’t meet the people we care about, and even our daily lives are disrupted—the list goes on.

It’s easy to feel down, but if music can lift our spirits even a little, that would be wonderful.

With that in mind, I’ve picked songs that will stand by your side—like a friend who understands you—and energizing tracks that are sure to boost your mood.

Here’s hoping you can face tomorrow feeling at least a little more positive.

Songs that Won’t Lose to Corona (11–20)

That’s important.Daiji MAN Burazāzu Bando

[Parody Song] Daiji MAN Brothers 'Sore ga Daiji' Telework Chorus
That's important.Daiji MAN Burazāzu Bando

This is a parody of the Daijiman Brothers Band’s huge 1991 hit “Sore ga Daiji,” with lyrics about precautions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Supervised by Toshiyuki Tachikawa of the Daijiman Brothers Band himself, the chorus was recorded via telework.

Participants included RED RICE, SHOCK EYE, and HAN-KUN from Shonan no Kaze, as well as Sonar Pocket, Yanawaraba, and others—28 artists from 8 groups in total.

The song encourages behaviors to avoid COVID-19, such as avoiding crowds and refraining from going out, and calls on listeners to protect themselves and their loved ones by taking these actions.

Kyogo Kawaguchi’s “Ashita wa Hareru Darou” (“It Will Be Sunny Tomorrow”) is a song about hanging in there together until the day the coronavirus finally ends.

Released in 2020, the song was originally intended for people in his home prefecture of Tochigi who were affected by the 2019 typhoon.

But soon after, the pandemic began, and it became a song for those suffering from both disasters and COVID-19.

It carries a positive message: Nothing goes on forever, so let’s stay cheerful and energetic, piling up small moments of happiness until the day this all comes to an end.

Be kind to othersTHE BLUE HEARTS

When you’re seized by a vague sense of anxiety or restlessness you can’t quite pinpoint, there are surely many people who feel like listening to THE BLUE HEARTS.

This song is one of their signature tracks—you often hear it in commercials, as a TV drama theme, or in cover versions.

The lyrics are incredibly straightforward—nothing roundabout—hitting you right in the heart, which is one of the best things about THE BLUE HEARTS.

It’s also a popular number as a motivational “cheer” song.

At that timeyuzu

At that timeyuzu

Yuzu’s single “Sonotoki ni wa,” released exclusively via streaming in 2020.

For this song, Yujin Kitagawa reached out to fans on social media, asking for messages on the theme “What do you want to do when COVID-19 is over?” He read every response, took their feelings to heart, and shaped them into this track.

There are surely people who still haven’t been able to see distant family and relatives.

For those listeners, this song will likely resonate deeply.

And yet, in true Yuzu fashion, it’s a decisively positive piece—rather than getting somber, it’s a number that gives you energy and hope for what lies ahead.

Let’s dance at homeHoshino Gen

Let's dance at homeHoshino Gen

In April 2020, as people were being urged to stay home due to the spread of the coronavirus, Gen Hoshino released “Uchi de Odorou” (“Dance at Home”) on his Instagram.

Not only musicians but also celebrities, athletes, and members of the public collaborated with Hoshino’s video and posted their versions on social media, turning it into a social phenomenon.

Many of these videos became hot topics on TV and online.

Although it’s a very short and simple song, it’s a wonderful track that encapsulated the many feelings people had during life under self-restraint.

Rain followed by clear skiesMr.Children

This song, included on Mr.Children’s 1994 album Atomic Heart, portrays the feelings of a male office worker whose days are lackluster—someone who’s just going through the motions.

Listening to it now, when even those ordinary days are threatened by the COVID-19 pandemic, doesn’t it bring a bit of comfort? And the memorable chorus, which seems to rally you to shake off those dull days and honestly think, “Maybe I’ll try a little harder,” resonates all the more.

Jenny High “Jenny High Wash”

This song was released in May 2020, a time when the importance of handwashing was emphasized during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Set over a hip-hop-style beat, the languid, rap-like delivery of the lyrics gives it a distinctly stylish vibe.

The song carries a positive message: while maintaining the physical distance recommended during the pandemic, let’s keep our hearts close.

It might refresh your mood when you feel like adding a splash of color to a monotonous day.
