Recommended bands from Denmark. Popular bands from overseas.
Denmark, a major tourist destination located in Northern Europe.
In Japan, only songs that are global hits tend to make it to the forefront, so I think few people are familiar with Danish music.
In fact, Denmark is known worldwide as a country where dream pop and synth-pop have developed significantly.
This time, I’ve picked out some Danish bands.
The first half features classic veteran bands, while the second half introduces bands that color today’s scene.
Please sit back and enjoy!

HjertestarterNephew

Nephew is a Danish rock band that gained popularity in the 2010s.
While their breakthrough came in that decade, they had already begun their activities as a band in 1996 and spent many years struggling to gain recognition.
With most members being conservatory graduates, their music is meticulously crafted and highly refined down to the smallest details.
Since releasing the 2018 album “Ring–i–Ring,” the band hasn’t been particularly active, but there’s hope for what’s to come.
Recharge & RevoltThe Reveonettes

The Raveonettes are a Danish rock band that gained popularity for a musical style influenced by the Everly Brothers, who were active from the late 1950s to the 1960s, and The Jesus and Mary Chain, who were active from the mid-1980s to the 1990s.
As mentioned above, they’re a nostalgic band that recreates the sounds of the 1950s and 1960s, and they’ve been active from 2001 to the present.
If you like songs with a retro vibe, definitely check them out.
MoralsIceage

Iceage is a band known as an iconic presence in Denmark’s punk rock scene.
Formed in 2008, the band members had an average age of just 17 at the time.
Despite their youth, they quickly established their style and demonstrated a very high level of musicianship, rapidly becoming one of the most popular acts in Denmark’s punk rock scene.
Their momentum has only grown since, and they are gradually gaining global recognition.
If you’re into punk, definitely check them out.
Don’t Let Me DownThe Sandmen

Sandmen are a Danish rock band that was active from the 1980s through the 1990s.
Although they disbanded once in 1995, they reunited in 2003 and have since been energizing Denmark’s rock scene.
Their musical style draws on a variety of genres, including pop, garage rock, and psychedelic rock.
Rather than specializing in a single genre, they strike a well-balanced mix of several, making them a good recommendation even for those who are a bit hesitant about rock.
The Cynic feat.David BowieKashmir

Kashmir is an alternative rock band from Denmark that was active from the 1990s through the 2000s.
Known for their alternative and indie rock sound influenced by Nirvana and Led Zeppelin, they have been highly acclaimed even in Scandinavia, a hotbed for rock.
In 2017, they announced an indefinite hiatus, so we can’t hear new songs from them at the moment; however, since they haven’t disbanded, there’s hope that they will resume activities in the future.
