Autumn Wall Decoration Ideas for Seniors (1–10)
bagworm
In autumn, you often see bagworms hanging from trees.
How about turning that hanging bagworm scene into a wall decoration as an autumn vignette? While simply cutting out the shape of a bagworm from construction paper is easy, adding a bit of three-dimensionality is recommended to capture the look of a bagworm wrapped in leaves.
You could roll a piece of paper with lots of slits cut into it to form the “bag,” or even incorporate real fallen leaves as part of the piece.
Combine it with tree branches made by tightly rolling strips of construction paper, and complete the look of a bagworm hanging from a tree.
persimmon

Persimmons are one of the quintessential sweet fruits of autumn.
Their bright orange color captures the season visually as much as their flavor does.
Let’s make some persimmons and fully enjoy the appetite of autumn! You can simply cut out the shapes of the fruit and leaves from construction paper, or you can craft the persimmons in a round, three-dimensional form.
If you make them 3D, it’s also fun to hang them with string as a garland to decorate your wall.
Use various shades of orange—deep orange, light orange, and more—to create lots of persimmons, and build a cute little persimmon orchard.
grapes

How about making grapes out of colorful paper? Cut the paper into long, thin strips and curl them around a pencil to create plump, three-dimensional grapes.
Make some leaves too, and stick everything on the wall to complete a beautiful grape display.
If any parts are tricky, we can quietly stand by your side and work through them together while having fun.
Display it where friends and family gather, and it’s sure to delight everyone who visits.
It’s a lovely seasonal craft activity to enjoy together with older adults.
Cosmos and Red Dragonfly

Let’s make wall decorations featuring two symbols of autumn—cosmos flowers and red dragonflies! For the cosmos, combine loops made from thinly cut origami paper or paper tape to form the petals.
Create the yellow center using round stickers, a small crumpled piece of origami paper, or raffia/suzuran tape.
Put these together and your cosmos is complete! For the red dragonfly, make the wings from looped origami paper just like the cosmos petals, then attach them to a paper body to finish.
Have seniors work together to make lots of cosmos and create a cosmos field right inside the room!
burr chestnut
Sweet and delicious chestnuts are memorable not only for their smooth, shiny nuts in their skins but also for their spiky burrs that prick when you touch them.
How about turning those burr chestnuts into a wall decoration? To make the chestnuts, shape small crumpled balls of paper and cover them with brown or beige construction paper.
For the burrs, either cut multiple slits into a piece of construction paper or cut many long, thin, spine-like strips and glue them onto another sheet.
Then simply combine the chestnut and the burr you made, and it’s complete! Try making leaves and tree branches as well, and arrange them together.
Moon viewing
September brings Jugoya, the night when the moon looks its most beautiful of the year.
Let’s make a craft to celebrate the moon-viewing day in September.
Cut out shapes like the moon, moon-viewing dumplings, and rabbits from construction paper or fold them with origami, then arrange them on the wall.
To add depth, try using crumpled paper for the dango in the tsukimi dumplings, or create a fluffy look for pampas grass by making fine cuts in the paper.
For the rabbits, feel free to depict them gazing at the moon or pounding mochi—whichever scene you prefer.
Chinese bellflower

The bellflower wall decoration is lovely.
Since it’s made with colored high-quality paper, you can enjoy the beautiful hues.
Using a template to cut it out and adding creases to create a three-dimensional look both seem easy to do.
Making them in various colors will likely brighten up the room.
If everyone makes them together, it’ll spark conversation and be fun.
As you take your time working while reminiscing about the past, it’s sure to become a wonderful memory.
Looking at the finished bellflowers, you’ll be able to feel the atmosphere of autumn.
