The hands-on process of assembling them feels like returning to childhood—a truly enjoyable time.
It’s also effective for finger rehabilitation and dementia prevention.

Japanese-style cherry blossom wall decoration

Let’s make a cherry blossom wall decoration that captures the charm of traditional Japanese style using disposable chopsticks.
Cover the chopsticks with vinyl tape and assemble them to create a frame.
On the base of the frame made from a milk carton, arrange cherry blossoms.
To give it a more traditional look, be sure to add a paper fan made from construction paper.
Making the cherry blossoms with washi-patterned origami paper will also result in a beautiful finish.
Because this piece includes a frame, you can take it home.
It might also be nice to display in a senior’s room.
Since you can make it with familiar, everyday materials, be sure to try it as a spring craft.
Handmade grabber

Let’s make a grabber (magic hand) out of disposable chopsticks that you can also use for recreation games.
All you need are chopsticks, rubber bands, and plastic bottle caps.
Assemble four chopsticks into an X shape and secure them with rubber bands to make two units.
Then connect the two units with rubber bands, and attach a plastic bottle cap to the tip to finish.
Operate the chopsticks and use the side with the bottle cap to catch items.
The steps aren’t complicated, so it’s easy for older adults to try.
Once it’s done, it looks fun to use in recreational activities, such as object-grabbing games.
Fruit bowl

Let’s make a stylish fruit basket using disposable chopsticks! All you need are chopsticks and string.
Cut the chopsticks to the desired size and make holes for threading the string.
Then arrange them so they form a basket that opens like an accordion, thread the string through the holes, and tie it all together—that’s it! Since cutting the chopsticks and making holes can be a bit dangerous, it’s best to prepare those parts in advance.
It also looks super cute as a display for dolls or small accessories!
wall-mounted

Reuse your old CDs! Arrange disposable chopsticks so they radiate out from the center of a CD and glue them in place with a hot glue gun.
Place another CD on top, then glue more chopsticks in between the first set so they alternate.
Paint the whole piece in your favorite color.
Finally, attach a small mirror in the center and decorate around it to finish.
Once painted, you won’t even notice they’re chopsticks! It’s also great to skip the paint and showcase the natural look of the wood.
Give it a try!
One-Hand Bumbun Spinning Top

When you move your fingertips, your brain becomes more active, which can help prevent dementia and improve activities of daily living.
So this time, let’s get our fingers and hands moving with a spinning top that uses disposable chopsticks! A key point of this project is that you can make it with easy-to-find materials like chopsticks, an empty round box, or straws.
Attach a top made from a round empty box or thick paper between two chopsticks.
When you grip the tip of the chopsticks with one hand, the top spins.
It’s a fun project that lets you exercise your fingers and hands at the same time.
Since some steps are a bit complicated, be sure to proceed at a pace that suits older adults.
gun

Some seniors may have made a rubber band gun out of disposable chopsticks before.
Let’s try making a chopstick rubber band gun that might bring back those memories.
You can make it with three chopsticks and six rubber bands, though some steps are a bit tricky.
Please support seniors at their own pace.
Since you’ll be assembling the chopsticks with rubber bands, it involves a lot of finger work.
Because many nerves in the fingers and hands connect to the brain, using them can help stimulate brain activity.
It’s also fun to play target-shooting games with the finished piece.
This is a project that can help seniors reminisce about their childhood.

log house piggy bank

Assemble disposable chopsticks into a log cabin-style piggy bank! Create parts like exterior walls, roof, and windows from chopsticks, then assemble them into a house shape and secure with a hot glue gun.
If you’re making it a piggy bank, cut a coin slot on the inside of the roof and place the roof over it so it can open and close—this makes it even nicer.
The video uses toothpicks, but using chopsticks will bring out the wood grain and make it feel more like a log cabin! This craft idea is perfect for those who enjoy or are good at detailed work.
