[For Seniors] Fun to Make, Soothing to Display! Snowman Craft Ideas
Snowmen are such cute, soothing winter motifs, aren’t they?
In this article, we’ll share snowman-themed craft ideas designed for older adults.
There’s a wide variety to choose from: simple projects that use recycled materials like construction paper, plastic bags, and plastic bottles, as well as more elaborate ones using pom-poms, yarn, and towels.
Many seniors probably made snowmen outside when it snowed during their childhood, but as we age, it can become difficult to go out into the cold.
Please use these ideas as inspiration for enjoying fun activities indoors, in a warm space, during the harsh winter season.

Let’s make a paper-plate snow globe that looks beautiful when hung on a window and lit from behind.
First, cut out the inner part of a paper plate and attach a circular piece of laminate film.
Next, from the back, cover the entire opening with tissue paper cut into a circle, and seal the adhesive edge with OPP tape.
Finally, stick a construction-paper snowman onto the front of the laminate film, and you’re done.
In this idea, colorful tissue paper is used for a vibrant finish, but I think it would also look lovely unified in blue tones to evoke snow.
Perfectly round snowman

Let me share an idea for making a perfectly round snowman designed to look like it’s gazing upward.
First, cut a paper cup about 4–5 cm up from the bottom.
Next, attach a snowman face made from construction paper to the bottom of the cup, then glue it to the center of a paper plate.
The paper plate will be the snowman’s body, so add pipe-cleaner arms and use round stickers to create patterns on the body.
Finally, decorate the paper plate with star stickers, and you’re done.
It’s very simple yet creates a striking piece, so give it a try!
Snowman made with rings

A classic for birthday decorations! This is a snowman craft made with paper chains.
Make a loop by gluing a strip of construction paper into a ring, thread another strip through it, then glue it into another ring to create a chain.
Use colored paper for the top ring, as it will be the bucket hat.
The second ring is the face, and the ones below form the body—decorate them with stickers and ribbons.
Attach arms made from brown construction paper and a hanging ribbon to the head, and it’s complete.
Hang it on the wall or ceiling to bring a wintry vibe.
You can use this idea to make Santa Claus, too.

Snowman Stencil

With a clear plastic file, you can easily enjoy stenciling.
First, cut the file open so it becomes a single sheet.
Then cut out a snowman shape or use a craft punch to cut snowflakes to create your stencil sheet.
Once the sheet is ready, place it over drawing paper and secure it, then dab on paint with a sponge.
After the paint dries, add a bucket hat, a carrot nose, and branch arms made from construction paper, and draw the face with a pen to finish!

Let me show you how to make a cute snowman ornament with just a few simple steps.
Fold the two bottom corners of a clear bag into triangles and tape them down, then stuff the bag with white cotton and seal the opening.
Fold the left and right corners of the sealed opening into triangles and tape them as well.
Next, twist two pipe cleaners together to make a scarf, wrap it around the middle to cinch the bag, and shape it into a snowman.
Use round stickers for the eyes and nose, draw the mouth with a pen, and finish by adding a paper hat.
Thread a string through the scarf, and you can hang it on your tree.
Snowman made from a plastic bottle

Let’s make a snowman using an empty plastic bottle.
Bottles with ridges are especially recommended for making snowmen.
Fill the empty bottle with cotton, or glue tissue paper onto the surface to create the body.
If you cover the surface with tissue paper, placing a small LED light inside will give it a lantern-like look.
It’ll turn into such a cute creation that you’d never guess it’s a plastic bottle, and older adults are likely to enjoy making it too.
Snowman made with Yakult containers

Containers for Yakult and other lactic acid bacteria drinks are small and light, right? They’re easy to use for crafts and may be user-friendly for older adults as well.
This time, we’ll introduce a snowman craft using Yakult or other lactic acid drinks.
The key to creating the snowman’s soft, fluffy feel is to use quilt batting.
You can find it at 100-yen shops, so check it out.
Use double-sided tape to attach the quilt batting to the container, then add a hat and scarf with yarn, and decorate the facial features too.
Prepare a few different yarn colors for the hat and scarf.
It could be fun to let older adults choose their favorite colors.
