A must-hear selection of masterpieces tracing the path Every Little Thing has woven
Since their debut in 1996, Every Little Thing has left an indelible mark on Japan’s pop music scene.
After Mitsuru Igarashi’s departure, they restarted as a duo and further broadened their musical range.
From up-tempo dance numbers to songs centered on acoustic guitar and dramatic pieces colored by strings, that breadth is one of ELT’s strengths, isn’t it? Kaori Mochida’s expressive delivery has also evolved into a vocal style that delicately conveys emotional nuances, giving the group as a whole a deeper flavor distinct from their debut days.
In this article, we trace ELT’s journey through their music and present their allure with a selection that gets to the heart of ELT.

A must-hear selection of classic songs tracing the path Every Little Thing has woven (21–30)
swayingEvery Little Thing

In March 2003, when the winds of the Warring States period swept into theaters, Every Little Thing delivered a refreshing pop tune as the theme song for the film Inuyasha: The Castle Beyond the Looking Glass, woven from sparkling synthesizers and an upbeat melody.
Kaori Mochida’s lyrics portray shifting emotions through metaphors like pale skies and gemstones.
The exhilaration of stepping forward from stagnation aligns beautifully with the story’s rising tension toward the film’s climax.
Though placed in the unusual position of being a movie theme song while included as the B-side to the single “Grip!,” it, together with the TV opening “Grip!,” colored the world of the work from two fronts.
It’s a song that gives you a push when you want to kindle your sense of adventure or face forward.
cold rainEvery Little Thing

This is a classic ELT ballad whose transparent vocals by Ms.
Mochida seep straight into your heart.
The music video features a well-known actor, giving it a cinematic feel.
Just like the title suggests, it’s a late-period ELT masterpiece you’ll want to listen to on a day when a gentle rain is falling.
Rescue meEvery Little Thing

The scene in the PV where Mochida is holding a stuffed animal is adorable.
I really want everyone to see the many different styles she shows in the PV—almost like seven transformations.
It’s a masterpiece full of flair that also lifts your spirits.
This is Every Little Thing’s 15th single.
Fragments of LoveEvery Little Thing

They were featured in a Shiseido commercial, and even performed on the NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen with a bright, uplifting set.
That day, I was glued to the TV, waiting for ELT to appear.
From then on, I found myself hoping they would perform at Kouhaku every year.
DREAM GOES ONEvery Little Thing

It’s a song overflowing with hope that seems to well up from deep within.
Released in September 2009 as Every Little Thing’s 36th single, it was also used as the theme for the drama “Haken no Oscar: Shoujo Manga ni Ai wo Komete.” The lyrics gently support you through the hardships of pursuing a dream, conveying that “even if you haven’t grasped anything yet, the tireless efforts you’ve been building up out of sight will one day bloom,” and they give you courage.
It’s a track that makes you realize the importance of the time you’ve lost and conveys a resolve to keep moving toward the future.
A song that can be a source of strength—one I especially hope those feeling lost in life will listen to.
Future WorldEvery Little Thing

Unlike the first one, this has an up-tempo, breezy feel that just races ahead.
It has a great sense of speed, and listening to it instantly blows away your stress—an early masterpiece by ELT.
Their TV performances were super cool, too.
This is Every Little Thing’s second single.
NECESSARYEvery Little Thing

This is Every Little Thing’s memorable 10th single.
It’s a very cute, poppy love song.
NECESSARY, which really gets the crowd going at live shows, became one of my favorites ever since I heard it when I went to an ELT concert for the first time.
