[Childcare] Fun February craft ideas you’ll want to make with 2-year-olds!
Here are some perfect craft ideas for two-year-olds in February.
This is the season to enjoy motifs full of seasonal charm, like Setsubun ogres, Valentine’s chocolates, and snowmen.
Tearing origami, crumpling tissue paper, and making finger stamps—these activities let children move their hands while experiencing the textures of different materials.
Finished pieces can be displayed on the wall or used for pretend play, offering many ways to enjoy them.
Be sure to have fun making February-themed creations together with the children! Since we emphasize ideas that foster children’s free creativity, we use the term “制作 (seisaku: creation/making)” rather than “製作 (seisaku: craft/production)” in the main text.

https://www.tiktok.com/@hoiku.labo/video/7326770499025997063Perfect for February! Here’s how to make a fluffy, cute heart wreath.
First, fold a paper plate in half and cut it so that, when opened, it forms a heart shape.
Cut out the center of the plate as well.
An adult should handle the cutting.
Next, wrap two colors of tissue paper vertically around the paper plate.
After spreading glue over the entire plate, crumple small pieces of tissue paper and stick them on.
Add a ribbon and a loop for hanging, and it’s done! The sticking and crumpling steps are especially fun for two-year-olds, so be sure to try making it together with your child.
Perfectly Round Oni Made with a Marble Rolling Game
https://www.tiktok.com/@yuna_hoiku_seisaku/video/7454320816499608865We’ll introduce a marbled marble art project perfect for Setsubun: making an oni (ogre).
You’ll need a tray, yellow construction paper cut to fit the tray, a round piece of construction paper for the oni base, marbles, black paint, and face parts for the oni.
First, place the yellow construction paper in the tray.
Dip the marbles in black paint and roll them around inside the tray.
Next, cut the yellow paper into a half-circle to resemble the oni’s pants, matching the size of the base.
An adult should handle this step.
Finally, glue on the oni’s face parts, and it’s complete!
Creating the demon that cuts and tears
Perfect for Setsubun crafts! Here’s a wall display idea recommended for 2-year-olds.
Prepare construction paper parts for the ogre’s face, head, and horns, along with origami paper, glue, and crayons.
First, apply glue to the head piece and stick torn pieces of origami paper onto it.
Then, glue the head and horn pieces onto the face piece.
Finally, draw the ogre’s face with crayons to complete it! You can also prepare parts like the ogre’s eyes in advance so the children can enjoy sticking them on.
Be sure to try making it together with the kids.
Ehomaki made by rolling construction paper
@atsumichan774 Setsubun CraftGood evening! I’m Atsumi, a nursery teacher. Today I made a perfect craft for Setsubun: an ehomaki/rolled sushi craft. It’s fun to roll up the ingredients! It’s super easy but looks pretty real… You can even use it for pretend play! Idol – YOASOBI
Here’s a very cute Ehomaki craft that’s perfect for two-year-olds.
Prepare a toilet paper roll, colored construction paper cut into squares, and paper towels.
First, roll the colored paper into thin strips to look like fillings.
Next, stack several layers of paper towels to resemble rice, then roll the colored paper up inside them.
Place the roll into the toilet paper tube, spread glue on black construction paper, and wrap it around the tube to finish.
It also works great for pretend play, so give it a try!
Heart garland
https://www.tiktok.com/@hoikushisatomi/video/7459717839067417873Perfect for February crafts! Here’s how to make an adorable heart garland that you can create with 2-year-olds.
First, cut cardboard into heart shapes.
Add a little double-sided tape, then wrap the hearts with yarn in any colors you like.
The more you wrap, the fluffier and cuter they look! Finally, connect the finished hearts with yarn to make a garland, and you’re done! You can also play with the hearts without stringing them together, so be sure to try making this with your child.
Ogre Underpants Made by Cutting Origami
It’s just like we washed the ogre’s underpants! Here’s a wall decoration of ogre pants recommended for 2-year-olds.
You’ll need yellow construction paper cut into the shape of ogre pants, black origami paper, and glue.
First, tear the black origami paper straight into strips to look like the pants’ pattern.
The different widths give it personality and look adorable.
Glue the torn pieces onto the ogre pants.
Finally, attach them to a string as if they’re laundry hanging out to dry, and you’ll have an adorable wall display all finished!

Two-Color Heart You Can Make with Kids

Here’s a cute two-tone heart idea using double-sided origami paper! First, fold the paper in half so it becomes a rectangle.
Then overlap the left and right sides to fold it into a square, and repeat the same fold once more to crease it well.
Return the paper to the rectangular shape and place it with the creases at the bottom.
Fold the bottom-left corner up to align with the outer crease.
Open that fold into a triangle and flatten it.
If the left side of the paper looks like a house shape, you’re on the right track.
Next, lift one layer of the top-right corner and fold it down into a triangle along the bottom edge.
Once folded, fold the right edge in to meet the center line.
Lift one layer of the lower-left corner of the part you just folded and fold it into a triangle, then flip the paper over.
Fold the right edge inward to form a square again, and fold down the top edge about 5 mm all together.
Open the topmost layer of the folded-down section and squash the corner into a triangle.
Finally, fold both bottom corners in to meet the center line, and it will form a heart!
