Prefectural University of Kumamoto is a public university located in Tsukide, Higashi Ward, Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture, and was established in 1949. It originated from the Kumamoto Prefectural Women’s Vocational School, founded in 1947. The university festival is called the Hakua Festival and is held over two days, November 17 and 18.

Shikuma Festival | Kumamoto University (Kurokami North Campus)Nov 2 (Sun) – 4 (Tue), Kumamoto Prefecture

The Shigumasai festival is held for three days every year in early November at Kumamoto University’s Kurokami North Campus to coincide with the university’s anniversary. Although the festival’s executive committee once dwindled in number and disbanded, it has since been revived, and the event now attracts 34,000 visitors, making it the largest university festival in Kyushu in terms of attendance.
