This article introduces songs with a fish theme.

Fish songs—rarely explored in depth—are surprisingly familiar, led by the supermarket classic Osakana Tengoku (Fish Heaven).

You might be wondering what other songs are out there.

While metaphors are common in the music world, we’ve kept those to a minimum and focused on songs that sing directly about fish as much as possible.

From children’s songs to rock, there’s a wide variety—must-see for anyone who wants to discover fish-themed music!

“Ii Fugu no Uta” (Good Fugu Song) is a promotional song for tiger puffer (torafugu) by the National Marine Aquaculture Association.

The singer, Sho Shimomatsu, who also wrote and composed the song, comes from a family that farms torafugu, and his affection for the fish comes through in both the lyrics and his vocals.

CDs have been distributed to producers and supermarkets nationwide and are used at events and in fresh fish sections.

Tuna Songutahime ku ro shi o

“The Tuna Song” is a children’s tune that cheerfully celebrates the charms of tuna with a gentle singing voice.

It repeatedly calls out popular tuna dishes like sashimi and steaks, and its lyrics praising tuna’s deliciousness are sure to whet your appetite.

The catchy shout of “It’s tuna!” delivered with perfect tone and timing is irresistibly addictive.

Koi is a heartbreak song themed around the proverb “the one that got away.” It was included on singer-songwriter Aimyon’s 2019 single Harunohi, a release that cemented her nationwide popularity.

Set to a lively ska-style beat, its acoustic guitar and synth tones ring out.

The lyrics portray the sorrow of not ending up with the one you love, depicting someone facing an unbearable reality alone.

With its rhythmic band arrangement contrasted by her emotional vocals, it’s a hidden gem.

“Seki no Tai Tsurii Uta” is a folk song from Oita Prefecture that prays for a big catch.

Its bold, passionate lyrics evoke the image of fishermen singing with carefree spirit.
