If you’re reading this, you might be a new student who joined the school band and was assigned the flute, or an adult considering the flute as a new hobby.
However, when you actually try to play, you’ll likely find it’s harder than you imagined.
This time, for those just starting to handle the instrument, I’ll introduce some easy songs you can play on the flute and recommended practice pieces.

During your warm-up, it’s a good idea to spend a bit more time on long tones for B and F.
Variations on “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Mozart’s “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” Variations is a perfect piece for fundamental flute practice.
Besides the familiar main melody, the irregular variations may feel a bit challenging.
The key is to divide the piece into several sections and polish them steadily, step by step.

It uses quarter notes, eighth notes, and half notes.
I think it’s well-suited for basic practice—checking whether you really understand the note values, whether the transitions between notes are clean, and whether your fingers are moving smoothly.
It’s under two minutes, so it’s nice that you can practice it repeatedly.
