Today, I devour music from over 80 countries and run a personal blog introducing tracks. I often listen to genres like nuevo flamenco, bolero, canzone, and R&B. Started working as a music writer as a side job while employed at a record shop, and for over 18 years I’ve contributed to music magazines, disc guide books, mooks, and web media. As a writer my main field is Western music, but as a listener for over 35 years, I always try to keep my curiosity alive with the motto “I like what I like.” I have experience playing in bands, where I was a bassist who handled songwriting and composition. Instruments I’ve played include bass, guitar, and piano. I began studying English in my mid-40s and continue to do so today.

Many Western music fans might be thinking, “I know American, British, and Scandinavian rock, but I’m not really familiar with French bands…” Quite a few of you may picture French electro when you think of France’s music scene.

Granville is a French pop band formed in January 2011.

The members are vocalist Mélissa Dubourg, singer-songwriter and guitarist Sofiane El Garrafi, plus a bassist and a drummer, making it a four-piece.

Influenced by 1960s pop, the band is known for songs with a somewhat nostalgic feel.

They released their debut single, “Jersey,” in June 2012, followed by their debut album, “Les Voiles,” in February 2013.

They haven’t seemed very active publicly since then, but they’re a very tasteful band, so we’re excited to see what they do next!

Their hallmark is tracks with a horror flavor, which helped spark the “bizarre disco” craze.

Members have included May Ambruster and Penny Duck.
