Bands made up of women are often lumped together as “girls’ bands.” But just like bands of men, there are many genres and groups to explore—that’s part of the fun.

Do you have a favorite girls’ band? Compared to male bands, there are far fewer of them, aren’t there? Here, we’ll introduce some recommended songs by girls’ bands formed by women.

From airy, transparent vocals to full-on death growls—there’s plenty to enjoy! If any band catches your interest, be sure to look up their other songs too.

Sabasister – Jersey Music Video
jerseySabasusutā

Formed in 2022 around vocalist/guitarist Nachi, born in 2002, Sabasister is a girls’ trio drawing attention at home and abroad, having even landed a slot at SUMMER SONIC that same year.

Nachi’s lyrics capture everyday moments in a way anyone can relate to, but their perspective differs from typical bittersweet love songs or radiant youth anthems, giving them a distinctive, intriguing personality.

The song “Jersey” introduced here may seem at first like a breakup tune using a jersey as a motif, but it actually came from Nachi’s experience of having a green jersey she was about to buy on Mercari snatched by someone else.

The simple, punkish sound, cute vocals with harmonies, and irresistibly catchy melodies are utterly charming—it’s easy to see why they drew early attention.

If you’re looking for up-and-coming girl bands, this is one to check out now!

As the title suggests, I especially want 19-year-olds to give this a listen! It’s a song by the girls’ band Chakra, formed in 2022, released in April 2023.

It’s packed to the brim with the sound and vocals that only come at the moment when “every member is 19.” The lyrics capture the feeling of “wanting to live true to myself even while I’m struggling,” and their down-to-earth words are truly moving.
