From cute to cool: iconic and recommended songs from uniquely individual girl bands

Bands made up of women are often lumped together as “girls’ bands.” But just like bands of men, there are many genres and groups to explore—that’s part of the fun.

Do you have a favorite girls’ band? Compared to male bands, there are far fewer of them, aren’t there? Here, we’ll introduce some recommended songs by girls’ bands formed by women.

From airy, transparent vocals to full-on death growls—there’s plenty to enjoy! If any band catches your interest, be sure to look up their other songs too.

Potali “Broken Breath” MV (released February 6, 2019)
Interrupted breathpotari

Potari is a girls’ band from Toyohashi City in Aichi Prefecture.

They won “TANK! the AUDITION” in 2012, rapidly raising their profile and actively performing afterward.

The song in the video is “Togireta Kokyū” (“Broken Breath”), included on their third album, Potari no 3, released in 2019.

It’s a fast-paced rock number with irresistibly straight-shooting vocals—a really invigorating track.

However, the band disbanded after releasing Potari no 3.

AldiousSWEET TEMPTATION

A girls’ heavy metal band that delivers intense performances live, despite their flashy, glamorous appearance! This track stands out for its solid musicianship that hooks you from the first listen and a vocalist with a powerful, badass voice.

They’re a hotly tipped band now, serving up authentic melodic metal!

In conclusion

We’ve introduced a lot of all-girl bands up to this point.

What did you think? Did you find any favorite bands or songs? I feel their greatest appeal lies in qualities you don’t often find in male bands—their clear, transparent textures and their gentle, delicate expressiveness.

Even in intense songs, they don’t come across as rough, and I sense a different kind of power there.
