Milky Way and star ornaments

We’ll show you how to make a Milky Way and stars that are perfect for Tanabata.
Fold a sheet of origami paper in half three times.
You’ll be making slits; if you sketch the cutting lines first with different colored felt-tip pens, it will be easier to cut.
When you open the paper, do it slowly so you don’t tear it.
Gently stretch out the opened paper, and your beautiful Milky Way is complete.
To make the stars, fold the origami into a triangle twice, then open.
Align with the center line at the bottom, fold the paper diagonally, and fold once more.
Cut diagonally through the center of the paper, and the star is done.
Attach the stars to the sparkling Milky Way and create a lovely Tanabata decoration.
Watermelon garland

Let’s make a garland inspired by a classic summer treat: watermelon! You can create watermelons in many ways—cut construction paper into watermelon shapes, fold watermelons from origami paper, or use paper fans if you want a bit of a 3D look.
Not just red—orange, yellow, and rind green are great motif options too.
Combine watermelons in different colors for a garland that looks more vibrant than using red alone.
Liven up your summer festival with a delicious-looking watermelon garland!
choco banana

Chocolate-covered bananas are a staple at summer festivals! How about decorations inspired by these treats? Cut yellow construction paper into banana shapes, then color the tops brown to make chocolate bananas.
You can switch up the “chocolate” to pink or green to evoke strawberry or matcha flavors.
Spread glue over the entire chocolate banana and sprinkle on finely cut pieces of construction paper in various colors to create the look of colorful sprinkles.
Use them to decorate a chocolate-banana stall or as wall decorations—give it a try!

Let’s make an easy star decoration out of origami.
With a single sheet, you can make two decorations.
First, fold the paper once to make a rectangle.
Fold the top right corner down to meet the bottom edge to make a triangle, then fold the bottom right corner up to meet the top edge in the same way, and unfold back to the rectangle.
Fold the bottom left corner to the center where the creases intersect, then fold it back along the left edge.
Align the bottom edge with the crease you just made and fold it up, then make a mountain fold along the diagonal line in the center.
Cut off the layered top part of the paper at a slant, and then make another cut parallel to the first, about 1 cm apart.
You’re done! Did you get a star and a star-shaped frame? For a neat finish, alternate mountain and valley folds along the creases on the star.
Ocean-themed wall decoration
@haruharo_made Summer wall decorations / Ocean creatures wall decor! Just cut out the illustrations and stick them onto curling ribbon! ★When attaching, glue tends to come off easily, so double-sided tape is recommended! Here’s a wall decor idea that’s fun just to look at, filled with lots of sea creatures.
Print and cut out various ocean animals, stick them onto plastic ribbon (raffia/suzuran tape), and line them up on the wall.
When arranged, they’ll look like a curtain—almost like an entrance to an undersea palace! You can use free images for the sea creatures, draw them yourself, or cut parts out of construction paper and assemble them.
It’s a great chance for kids to learn about different animals, so try using lots of different creatures.
Fish and Star Garland

Let me introduce a summery, refreshing chain of fish and stars.
Get colored paper, scissors, a stapler, a pencil, and glue ready.
Cut several long, narrow strips from the paper.
Gently curve each strip and staple it slightly off-center toward one end.
Glue the back tail ends together.
Repeat the process and connect the fish by attaching their tail sections to one another.
For the stars, take a narrow strip, fold one end in half, then make three creases so all fold edges point outward, and staple from the outside.
Connect the star tips to each other with a stapler to form a chain.
It’s also fun to use different colors of paper.
spiral ornament

Here are two ideas for spiral decorations you can make with origami paper.
The first is a teardrop-shaped ornament.
Cut the origami into six narrow strips and keep them stacked.
Fold down the top left corner to form a triangle and crease it.
At the bottom edge, fold up about 5 mm to create a glue tab.
After gluing all the triangular sections together, lift the layers of paper at the bottom one by one, twist each once, and glue the glue tabs together.
The second is a leaf-shaped ornament.
The process is basically the same as the first, but make the bottom glue tab by folding it into a triangle in the opposite direction to the top triangle.
