one’s true feelingssumika

Sumika’s 2021 youth anthem is a song called “Honne” (“True Feelings”).

It was also chosen as the support song for the 99th All Japan High School Soccer Tournament, so it’s well known among soccer team students and sports fans.

Since it was released in January, it’s also been embraced by young people as a song to express gratitude for their school days during the season of parting with friends.

Among teammates pursuing big goals, there were probably times when they couldn’t speak from the heart, but through this song, we’d like to convey words of thanks—thank you.

It doesn’t meltmakaroni enpitsu

Macaroni Enpitsu’s seventh single, released in 2020, is a song we hope students will listen to.

In “Tokenai” (“Won’t Melt”), the message Macaroni Enpitsu shares with students traces hazy memories to tell of the friendship, bonds, and love found in the small, everyday moments of school life.

The words captivate with lyrics that are warm yet a little bittersweet.

Student days, packed with memories, pass quickly—like they’re melting away—but this is a song that makes you want to cherish each day.

This is a song included on JUICE UP!!, the second single released by WANIMA, a melodic hardcore three-piece band known for their exhilarating high-tone vocals.

It was also chosen as the theme song for a drama about the recovery of Kumamoto.

WANIMA is very popular among students, and the reason may lie in their lyrics, which convey their message straight without sugarcoating.

Their words capture raw feelings, making it easy for listeners to relate them to their own backgrounds.

The song Tomoni also delivers a powerful message, urging students to push forward boldly toward their futures.

TwinsCHiCO with HoneyWorks

A girls’ friendship song that depicts everyday life—this is “Twins” by CHiCO with HoneyWorks.

It’s a feel-good friendship tune that makes you giddy just listening, and I think many women will find themselves nodding along with “so true!” Even if you didn’t think much of what you said at the time, it often turns into a cherished memory later.

Girls’ chatter never ends, but this song may jolt you with realizations and bring back memories of things like, “Oh yeah, that happened too.”

ReunionRADWIMPS

Since their major debut in 2005, RADWIMPS have been popular for their catchy melodies and wordplay that have captured the hearts of many students.

If you’re a student, you probably have at least one favorite song of theirs.

The song “Reunion” is notable for the band’s use of rhymes within the lyrics.

By delivering themes of friendship and youth in a rap-like style, the lyrics pack in a lot of words, yet the message of the song comes through clearly.

With its chorus lyrics and the use of the word “omaera” (“you guys”), it’s a track I’d especially recommend to male students.

Makomina is the duo of Mako and Minami, who broke out after showing off their twin-dance videos on social media and are popular among women their age.

As the title suggests, their song “Kimi ga Ite Yokatta” (“I’m Glad You’re Here”) is a friendship anthem overflowing with gratitude toward the other person.

Since Makomina were high schoolers at the time, the emotions feel very real, making it a song that likely resonates easily with high school–age listeners.

If you want to express gratitude to a friend you’re always with, it might feel a bit embarrassing, but a song like this could be a great way to say it.

“Secret base ~Kimi ga Kureta Mono~” is a song released in 2001 by the four-member girls’ rock band ZONE that sings about a page of youth and parting.

It is also one of their signature songs, covered by many artists to this day.

Having been released in summer, with words like fireworks and summer vacation, it evokes the feeling of youthful summers.

This moving youth anthem looks back on happy summer memories, framed by the very poignant story of a friend transferring to another school.
