This is the 12th major-label single by singer-songwriter Yu Takahashi from Akita Prefecture.

While life brings sadness and hardship, this song carries the message that beyond those trials lies new joy.

With his distinctive, gentle voice delivering a positive message over an invigorating melody, it’s a track that can steady anxious feelings and lift your spirits.

A light, upbeat power song that blows away small worries.

Dreams come trueMONGOL800

This song, Mongol800’s “Yume Kanau,” sings about hope in a very straightforward and positive way.

It’s included on their second album, MESSAGE, released in 2001, which achieved extraordinary sales.

Every track on the album is a classic, but this one stands out for its positivity and for the solid foundation beneath that positivity—its message really hits home.

It’s also a must-play that gets the crowd absolutely pumped at live shows.

This is a song by Masaharu Fukuyama that portrays running to find a rainbow—symbolizing hope.

It was used as the theme song for the drama “WATER BOYS,” starring Takayuki Yamada, which became a hot topic for its male synchronized swimming.

A slightly rearranged version of the same song was also used for “WATER BOYS 2,” the drama broadcast a year later starring Hayato Ichihara.

Even when tears fall, it inspires you to keep running toward the hope you envision—the rainbow—without giving up.

And perhaps, beyond that, a hope greater than you imagined may be waiting…?

Their music, which poses all sorts of questions to the listener, always makes us realize something, doesn’t it? This song, included on their 2013 album “X to O to Tsumi to,” is no exception.

Set to a lively, up-tempo rock sound and packed with a torrent of words, the lyrics carry a message for young people stepping into society while feeling lost about their own lives.

It feels as if we’re being rushed to choose between trusting in our unexplored potential and taking on a challenge, or following a stable, ordinary life—and I can’t help but think this is the magic with which RADWIMPS’ vocalist Yojiro speaks to his listeners.

Dreams and hopes begin with knowing yourself, don’t they?

paprikaFoorin

A song by the children’s music unit Foorin that drew attention for being written, composed, and produced by singer-songwriter Kenshi Yonezu.

Created under the concept of a sing-and-dance cheer song, it became an explosive hit especially among children across Japan.

With bright, energetic vocals and choreography, it conveys an uplifting message of singing for someone dear, and it’s a number that gives a push to people striving each day with dreams and hopes.

Incidentally, there is also a self-cover version by Kenshi Yonezu himself, so why not give that a listen as well?

Tomorrow as wellSHISHAMO

SHISHAMO is a three-piece girls’ band with a strong poppy, energetic image.

True to that image, their song “Ashita mo” is a pop tune that sings about a girl’s efforts and everyday life.

Since it was used in a Docomo commercial, many of you might recognize the chorus.

Give it a listen when you’re feeling down or lacking motivation—it’s a number that gives you the strength and the drive to say, “I’ll do my best again tomorrow.”
