Lovely cheer song

An uplifting song sung by a female artist. A track you’ll want to listen to when you need a boost.

When you want to do your best, when you feel like you might break, or when something unpleasant happens… there are times you just want to listen to a cheer-up song, right?

I think a lot of people draw strength from music.

So this time, I’m going to introduce some motivational songs, focusing on tracks sung by female artists.

I’ve gathered songs that carry encouraging messages from a female perspective and gentle tunes that sink softly into the heart.

Please take your time listening while reading the lyrics.

“Makenaide” is a shining representative of motivational songs in the J-pop scene! Released in 1993, it’s characterized by Izumi Sakai’s clear, soaring vocals and a friendly, catchy melody that feels emblematic of ’90s J-pop.

It’s also been beloved for many years as the cheer song for the 24-Hour TV charity marathon.

When I listen to this track, I somehow feel like I can push myself just a bit further! If you want a boost to see things through to the end, this song is highly recommended.

ECHOLittle Glee Monster

This song, sung by Little Glee Monster, makes a strong impression with an intro that sounds like a rousing sports chant.

Listening to it stirs up a fighting spirit—and no wonder, since it was the theme song for the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

The vocals stay powerful up to the chorus, and then suddenly shift to a catchy, soaring melody that feels quintessentially Little Glee Monster.

The lyrics, which seem to ask, “Haven’t you been working hard for this very moment?” are perfect for those times when you want to give it your all—right before a game, an exam, or any crucial moment.

As many times as you likeDREAMS COME TRUE

This song is one of DREAMS COME TRUE’s signature tracks and is also known as the theme song for the drama “Emergency Room 24 Hours.” The chorus, which repeatedly uses the title phrase “Nando demo” (“Again and again”), is particularly striking, and listening to this song is sure to make you feel positive—like if you keep challenging yourself without giving up, it will work out someday.

I’d recommend it as an anthem to cheer on anyone striving toward a goal.

When you feel like giving up, take a moment to pause, listen to this song, reset your mindset, and try again.

The day called tomorrowNatsukawa Rimi

A song that was originally a poem to which music was later added.

With the vast sky as its theme, it expresses the beauty of living and portrays the belief in tomorrow even in difficult circumstances.

Released as a single in September 2011, it was tied up as a choral piece supporting recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake.

Rimi Natsukawa and Masafumi Akikawa co-created the work and each released it on CD, also performing together on year-end music programs.

For those whose everyday lives were taken by the disaster and who feel they cannot see the light, listening to this piece will surely inspire them to face their wounded hearts.

Even when it’s hard, tomorrow will come—this song teaches us to believe in ourselves and overcome.

TOMORROWMayo Okamoto

Since its release in 1995, this classic pep song has given courage to people in many different situations, starting with cheering at sporting events.

It’s sung by singer-songwriter Mayo Okamoto, and it’s one of her signature songs.

Set to a light, refreshing tempo, the lyrics convey the message that “the more hardship you’ve gone through, the further you can move forward.” Taking this message to heart, you’ll likely feel encouraged to think, “I’ll try a little harder,” no matter how tough things are right now.

NIPPONShiina Ringo

This is a song created by Ringo Sheena, who is active as the vocalist of Tokyo Jihen, as the theme for NHK’s soccer broadcasts in 2014.

Ringo Sheena is known for songs that evoke a certain traditional Japanese atmosphere, and as its title suggests, “NIPPON” also retains a somewhat Japanese flair while combining a modern, catchy melody.

In particular, the drum rhythms—reminiscent of a cheer squad—that you can hear in the intro and later sections naturally lift your spirits as you listen.

Have you ever felt like you were losing sight of your true self? This is the song I want you to listen to at times like that, sung by Chiaki Mayumura.

It’s a soothing track that affirms the bumpy, uneven parts within you as precious individuality.

It was produced in July 2024 as the CM song for NEC’s job-hunting support campaign “I’m Unstoppable—Move Forward!” and later included on the album “Ufufu,” released in November 2024.

Its boundless imagination blows away that urge to play it small.
