IMPULSEHidenori

A guitarist who won third place in the global speed-picking video contest “Dean Shredder Search.” After studying a wide range of guitarists and developing his own unique theories, Hidenori has leveraged his exceptional technique to teach guitar online and pursue various other activities.
While many shred guitarists blaze through solos from start to finish—something that is certainly exciting—Hidenori’s playing meticulously balances flashy shred lines with melodious phrases.
Thanks to this dynamic contrast, he keeps listeners engaged all the way through, even in instrumental tracks without vocals.
He’s highly recommended not only for fans of shredding, but also for listeners who don’t particularly favor shred guitar.
The Last RevengeYuki(D_Drive)

D_Drive is a band formed by instructors and students from a music vocational school.
Yuki serves as the band’s guitarist, delivering instrumental hard rock.
While the band is known for the high level of musicianship of each member, her playing especially stands out for its fast-picking techniques.
She performs legato techniques such as hammer-ons and pull-offs—with minimal picking—as well as sweep picking, all with precision and speed.
She often uses ESP guitars in live performances, producing a clear and powerful tone.
She is an artist adept at technical guitar playing, having also served as an instructor for an instructional DVD introducing fast guitar playing.

Across the Horizona2c

a2C is an artist from Tochigi Prefecture who is also active as a member of the music unit MintJam.
He began creating music with DTM in high school and, after becoming deeply immersed in game music, enrolled in a vocational school for creators.
There, his guitar performance skills were recognized, which prompted him to launch his music career in earnest.
He also plays guitar for fripSide, a music unit known for numerous anime songs, showcasing performances that make full use of fast picking, tapping, and sweeping in his guitar solos.
In 2021, he released his first instrumental album, and he continues to create music that leverages his melodious guitar playing.
SHINEKen(L’Arc〜en〜Ciel)

The guitarist of L’Arc~en~Ciel, a four-piece rock band that continues to expand its presence not only in Japan but around the world.
He’s a guitarist whose instantly recognizable tone and meticulously crafted, resonant arpeggios leave a strong impression, yet he’s also an all-rounder who, depending on the song, unleashes full-on technical speed picking.
By inserting pinpoint bursts of rapid-fire phrases within solos that have a clear sense of narrative arc, he creates a tension that elevates not just the guitar solo but the entire song—a player known for guitar solos that enhance the music itself.
TIME IS DEADSugizo(LUNA SEA)

A guitarist who performs with LUNA SEA and has also been active as a guitarist in X JAPAN following HIDE’s passing.
When playing with LUNA SEA, he isn’t particularly associated with fast shredding; his trademark is more of a flowing, violin-like guitar style.
However, when performing with X JAPAN, he delivers flashy, metal-style speed picking, showcasing a wide range of guitar techniques.
Beyond conventional playing, he’s also known for inventive ideas such as replicating animal sounds on the guitar and incorporating them into songs, and he remains an artist who continues to influence many guitarists today.
Fudge & MudgeYabori Koichi (FRAGILE)

Yahori shows off commanding, technical guitar work in FRAGILE, the unit led by drummer Kozo Suganuma, known as the King of Fills.
It’s a band so deep in the realm of the eccentric that you can barely tell how the songs are structured, but it’s one of those groups that made me realize new worlds open up when you push technique to the limit.
It’s cool in a wonderfully unsettling way.
HellympicKobayashi Shin’ichi (2.5Metallified)

Shinichi Kobayashi is a guitarist who also performs in the guitar instrumental unit 2.5Metallified with Takaya Maeda.
He’s well known as the author of “Hell’s Mechanical Training Phrases” and as a member of Hell Quartet.

Even in his fast passages, the notes are evenly articulated, and every sound carries a strong sense of power.
