[2026] Jazz BGM: A collection of recommended classics for work and study

What kind of music do you play when you want to focus on work or studying? Many people may find that pop or kayōkyoku (Japanese popular songs) can be distracting—yet complete silence makes it hard to concentrate.

That’s why I recommend jazz as background music.

The pleasant melodies of the piano and the rich tones of the saxophone add a stylish atmosphere without getting in the way of your tasks.

In this article, we’ve carefully selected classic jazz tracks that are perfect for working and studying.

In the first half, we focus on songs from the 2010s to the 2020s, and in the second half, we introduce timeless standards that have been loved across generations.

We hope you’ll find a new favorite track!

Stand By MeBen E. King

It was a memorable film, and even more than that, the song left a deep impression on me.

Ben E.

King’s song expresses the boys’ summer experience with a cool, reflective tone, as if looking back on it as an adult, and I think it was a perfect fit to play in the background of the movie.

Until now, I’d only been listening to pieces that felt rather plain, so for the first time I truly got the impression of numerous stars beautifully sparkling in a pitch-black night sky.

It’s a lovely night sky.

It makes me feel like I could gaze at it forever.

One of the real pleasures of this piece is hearing it on a grand scale with a full band.

The drums are fantastic, but the sections that feature the brass are incredibly cool.

Lots of amateurs try to imitate it, and it looks like it would be really rewarding to play.

It seems like a great track to listen to when you want to fire yourself up.

It feels like a scene from a movie.

It’s as if I’m watching in silence while listening to the guitar.

With a calm piece like this, I’d love to sink into it with Chiari’s quiet guitar.

It was a monochrome world.

It might not exactly feel like jazz, though.

The monaural sound softens the ensemble’s impact and makes it pleasant.

I listened while expanding on the classic feel suggested by the title.

With its bouncy rhythm, it seems like a couple could dance lightly to it.

Is this what dance halls of the old days were like?

You can really feel the tender, adult affection of looking back on a wonderful love through her languid, husky singing.

Booze, roses, and romance suit Julie London so perfectly.

It’s the very essence of a voice that paints a picture and carries true conviction.

As background music, how pleasantly the melody flows.

It matches the song’s calmness, and the unpretentious performance soothes the heart.

I feel entranced—before I know it, I might just drift off to sleep (in a good way).
