[Childcare] Incorporate cloth play into childcare and introduce a variety of activities

Fabrics like scarves and towels can be imagined into many shapes and are easy for children to handle.

Many teachers probably want to incorporate fabric play into their childcare but aren’t sure what ideas to try.

So this time, we’re introducing play ideas that use fabric!

The possibilities are endless: you can use them with traditional children’s songs or for imaginative play, tailored to the children’s ages.

They’re easy to adapt, so feel free to develop them into a variety of activities.

Master fabric play and broaden the range of your activities.

Gluttonous Gorilla

Gluttonous Gorilla [Handkerchief Play] Let's try a hand game using a handkerchief!
Gluttonous Gorilla

Many of you may be familiar with the hand game “The Gluttonous Gorilla.” It already feels quite realistic when done with just hand gestures, but using a handkerchief gives it a unique twist.

First, make a circle with one hand and push the center of the handkerchief into the circle.

Once you shape it, turn it upside down and hold it tightly.

You’ll get a form where, when you peel the “skin,” the center pops out! This can be applied to all the items that appear in the hand game song—banana, lemon, and onion.

Children love seeing the skin actually “peel” away! Another plus is that it requires no preparation, so you can perform it on the spot.

In conclusion

We introduced play activities using fabric that can be applied in childcare.

Because fabric can take many shapes, it offers a wide range of uses and is easy to adapt.

It’s helpful to propose activities that match the children’s ages and the overall atmosphere.

You can also incorporate it into eurhythmics or dance to create movement-based play.

Let’s make good use of fabric to broaden the possibilities in childcare.
