In this article, we’ll introduce the latest popular tracks and recommended songs by bands that play hard rock in a broad sense—from the genre’s legendary figures to younger acts who show the influence of vintage hard rock.

Spirit Adrift, which began in 2015 as a studio project by multi-instrumentalist Nate Garrett, is a highly acclaimed band in today’s heavy metal scene.
Their vintage sound, steeped in reverence for classic metal, also holds plenty of appeal for hard rock fans.
As of 2022, they have released four albums, and here I’d like to introduce the title track from their 2021 EP, Forge Your Future.
The signature doom metal sound—unfolding at a measured tempo—remains firmly in place, enriched by the wistful tones of an acoustic guitar introduction, melodies that are tuneful without tipping into excess sweetness, memorable, dynamic guitar riffs, and searing, well-timed guitar solos that exude a seasoned, understated cool.

Like A VillainBAD OMENS
Bad Omens, who also made waves with their North American tour in 2022, are known for their unique worldview that delves into the inner workings of the human heart.
In Like A Villain, they sing about loneliness and the difficulty of facing oneself.
On top of Noah Sebastian’s gentle vocals, the relatively mellow sound makes their music approachable even for those who don’t usually listen to hard rock.

HellboundBuckcherry
A track by Buckcherry, known in name and in fact as one of America’s representative rock bands, with accolades like Grammy nominations and over 300 million streams.
It’s the title track from their 9th album, Hellbound, and its simple arrangement featuring a catchy guitar riff really sticks with you.
The ensemble, where each instrument seems to “breathe,” offers a different kind of appeal from music that dazzles with sheer sonic mass.
Built on the aesthetics of subtraction, its dynamic, nuanced sound feels great—reminding us of the enduring cool of hard rock even today.
Heat AboveGreta Van Fleet
The song by Greta Van Fleet, a band that won numerous rock awards the year after their debut and has since grown to headline shows across five continents.
It’s the opening track of their second album, The Battle at Garden’s Gate, featuring an organ-led, dreamlike sound and a clear, airy arrangement with acoustic guitar that feels so pleasant.
At first listen, it may seem far from the general image of hard rock, but the dynamics in the chorus and the husky vocals carry a powerful pull that hard rock fans will likely find captivating.
It’s a richly layered rock tune that showcases the musicality of a young band whose future success is highly anticipated.
The Writing On The WallIron Maiden
Iron Maiden is one of the most famous heavy metal bands in the world and a towering presence that has remained at the top of the scene for years as a flagship act of the so-called NWOBHM.
It’s still fresh in our minds that they delighted heavy metal and hard rock fans worldwide by releasing their 17th full-length album, Senjutsu, in 2021.
The Writing On The Wall was released the same year as an advance single from the album, and its animated music video—featuring Eddie the Head, the band’s iconic mascot, in full armor—also became a hot topic.
Beyond the wistful, unmistakably Maiden-esque melody, the song leans less toward classical, “neo-traditional” heavy metal and more toward a bluesy vibe, with a solid, mid-tempo band ensemble.
The Southern rock-style riffs give it a hard rock edge that’s seriously cool.
And that dramatic chorus is guaranteed to spark massive sing-alongs in stadiums!
