Known by the abbreviation “Misuchiru,” Mr.Children is a monster band that has produced countless hit songs, and this is their vocalist and guitarist.

The lyrics and melodies—delivered with a distinctive phrasing that at times even evokes English lyrics—have such unique traits and hooks that you can tell it’s Kazutoshi Sakurai from the very first listen.

His ever-changing, shape-shifting vocals, which vary from song to song, seem to convey the message of the lyrics even more powerfully to listeners.

He’s the vocalist, guitarist, and primary songwriter of Maximum the Hormone—the core of the band who goes by the title “Vocals, 6-strings, and Younger Brother.” Ryo-kun’s standout strengths are his overwhelming vocal power and razor-sharp shouts.

Even within the loud rock scene, his sound pressure is top-tier.

His weapon is a “controlled shout” that isn’t just screaming: it has pitch, precise rhythm, and never collapses into strain.

He also switches between a variety of vocal techniques, brilliantly balancing metal-style delivery with pop melodies.

The vibe of his voice changes so much you’ll find yourself wondering, “Is this really the same person singing?” Definitely check him out!

Hiroshi Kitadani, commonly known as “Dani.” He made his major debut in 1994 with the rock unit Stagger, and in 1999 he broke into national fame as an anisong singer with “We Are!” the first opening theme for ONE PIECE.

He has also performed on stages around the world as a second-generation member of JAM Project, a group of powerhouse anisong vocalists, continually delivering overwhelming live performances.

Dani’s defining traits are his tremendous vocal power and rock energy! Especially in live settings, his stage presence, crowd work, and vocal stamina are truly top-tier among professionals, so it’s absolutely better to hear him live than on CD! I became a fan of Dani after seeing a JAM Project concert, so please check out some live videos!

The leader of Onmyo-za, a band known as a “yokai heavy metal” act.

He’s the command center, handling bass, vocals, and writing and composing nearly all of their songs.

While Onmyo-za often performs anime songs, hearing Matatabi’s voice will surely bring the phrase “anison rock” to mind! His voice is fantastic; his greatest weapon is a powerful, deep low register that contrasts with main vocalist Kuroneko’s high tones.

Despite its depth, his voice is very easy to understand.

Matatabi is also famous for never stopping once he starts talking on stage.

With passionate MCs, a compelling delivery, and staging that makes full use of his height, he draws the audience in and builds the band’s world.

The “Samurai Guitarist,” who’s gaining worldwide attention for his unique slap technique played with fingers instead of a pick.

In fact, his vocal expressiveness is equally outstanding—whatever he sings carries a sensual allure.

Influenced by his slap style, his singing has a powerful sense of rhythm, creating a seamless fusion that almost feels odd without a guitar in hand.

His English pronunciation is natural and world-class, and he’s the passionate type who captivates with groove.

While he has many songs in English, during his long-hair era most of his tracks were in Japanese, so if you’re thinking “I want to try singing one,” you’re sure to find a favorite.

In any case, he’s incredibly cool and stylish!
