Cheer songs in Western music recommended for men: world-class masterpieces and popular tracks.
Somehow, when it comes to so-and-so kinds of Western music, I can’t help but want to compare the difference in direction with Japanese music of the same genre—and I’m going to do that this time too.
In Japanese music, there are many artists who sing supportive songs gently or in a pop style, whereas in Western music there are a lot of hype-you-up anthems that feel like they’re shouting, “You can do it!!!”
Also, the writing by the people who did each review in this article is really entertaining.

Cheer-up Western Songs Recommended for Men: World Classics and Popular Hits (31–40)
Uptown FunkMark Ronson

Technically it’s a Mark Ronson classic, but without Bruno, this song wouldn’t exist.
It’s an upbeat track, and the music video is crafted with a really cool attention to detail.
Bruno is, of course, hugely popular with women, but everything he does and says is so cool that he’s also extremely popular with men.
I Won’t Last A Day Without YouCarpenters

From the Carpenters, “I Won’t Last a Day Without You,” known in Japanese as “Ai wa Yume no Naka ni” (“Love Is in a Dream”).
Young people today may have at least heard the Carpenters’ name.
Karen’s deeply embracing voice and superb singing deserve recognition even now.
The song says, “I can’t imagine life without you,” and if Karen says that in her beautiful voice, it really makes you want to do your best.
Counting StarsOneRepublic

Speaking of OneRepublic’s greatest hits, this is the song.
It’s a truly wonderful track with very romantic lyrics—and the title too! The whole piece is incredibly cool.
It’s also upbeat and easy to sing along to, so it’s no wonder it was so popular.
Let Her GoPassenger

If you think of Passenger’s greatest hits, it has to be this song.
It’s very mellow and easy to sing, so men sing it often at karaoke.
They’re a laid-back band with strong appeal to both men and women—a truly wonderful group.
Imitation of lifeR.E.M.

I think this is especially true for men, but crying in front of others is embarrassing, isn’t it? So even when it’s painful, we tend to hide our tears.
At times like that, the chorus line, “Come here, nobody cares that you’re crying,” really sinks into my heart.

Ho HeyThe Lumineers

It’s a classic by The Lumineers, whose album sold exceptionally well in Japan too.
They just visited Japan this April.
The tickets sold out, and even the additional release sold out—proof of their immense popularity.
We’re highly excited to see what they do next, as they continue to release songs with fresh styles.
See You AgainWiz Khalifa

This is a song used in the movie Fast & Furious, a film that every man got hooked on.
It’s definitely a masterpiece.
Charlie Puth’s beautiful vocals and Wiz Khalifa’s cool rap go together so well.
It makes me hope the two of them will keep collaborating in the future.
