NAMI NISHIMURA — Flute & Ocarina Player based mainly in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Known for a clear, transparent tone cultivated through classical training and passionate performances of Brazilian and Latin music. Her friendly personality has earned her broad support from children to seniors.[Biography]Born in Matsumoto, Nagano Prefecture. Graduated from Musashino Academia Musicae, Faculty of Music, Department of Instrumental Music, majoring in flute. Studied flute under Susumu Takaku, Akira Aoki, Hitomi Iishi, Ryo Sakagami, and Rie Akagi. Began full-scale ocarina performance activities after graduating from music college. Expanding her activities to include appearances at various concerts, demo performances at instrument fairs, solo ocarina concerts, and a serialized column in a specialist magazine.[Awards]• 5th place in the University Division of the Japan Classical Music Competition.• Selected in the Ensemble Division of the Osaka International Music Competition.• Prizewinner in the 2014 “Makoto Kuriya presents Ad-lib Contest” performing on ocarina.[Current Activities]While performing actively with her own leader band and in various sessions, she is also a member of the Brazilian unit “Casa Cheia” with pianist Mitsue Yamamoto and percussionist RINDA☆, the duo “Yuminami” with pianist Hiromi Kadota, and the classical unit “La turip.” In addition, she works across genres supporting singers. She is committed to promoting music through ocarina and flute lessons and performances at preschools. Her recently released solo album is also on sale to favorable reviews.[Media]Featured in an interview in “Ocarina,” a quarterly magazine by ALPSO Publishing, and contributes an occasional series on ocarina technique. Appeared on Koei Tecmo Games’ “Hyrule Warriors: Legends” stage at Niconico Live’s “Tokaigi 2016.” Provided ocarina instruction to performers (including voice actress Ruriko Aoki) and performed music from The Legend of Zelda.Nami Nishimura Ocarina School website:
