Music School Instructor

Takagi Riira

Born in Tokyo. Immersed in music from an early age, she has created and released about 80 original works using percussion, marimba, vibraphone, pipe organ, piano, and voice as her expressive media. Drawing on travel experiences in Turkey, Southeast Asia, Palau, Okinawa, and the Ogasawara Islands, her diverse body of work has been highly acclaimed as “one-and-only” music imbued with a unique worldview. Her releases include the original albums Medusa, Artemis, Konohana-no-Sakuyahime, Niirupitu, Mandragora, Pulau Sipadan, and Bonin Blue (hi-res audio), as well as Tamafuri Organ, a collection of organ works by J.S. Bach. A bold approach also drew attention on a track from Artemis (Taireidō Hymn of Praise), where she overdubbed 100 vocal tracks by herself. She has also produced numerous slideshow works in collaboration with her husband, photographer Kazuyuki Takaki. She is active with the Healing Network, a group researching “Healing Arts,” a method for building the body that underpins instrumental performance and cultivating correct posture. She graduated from the Department of Percussion, Faculty of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts. She runs the Lila Music School in Hiroshima. She studied percussion and marimba under Seimon Aruga (Professor Emeritus, Tokyo University of the Arts), Tomoyuki Okada (Visiting Professor, Sapporo Otani University Faculty of Arts; Professor Emeritus, Senzoku Gakuen College of Music), Takaya Nakatani (Professor, Musashino Academia Musicae), and Sachiko Nakatani.
