Among Michael Jackson’s songs, this masterpiece is often called the most beautiful and sensual.

Lose yourself in his vocals as he sings about making love until dawn.

It’s a track you’ll want to hear in the morning, one that makes you feel as if you’re in a forest just before daybreak.

Released in April 1988 as the fifth single from the album BAD.

A rock number where Eddie Van Halen’s fiercely melancholic guitar—following on from Beat It—and Michael’s near-screamed vocals resound.

In the music video, the woman appears only in silhouette, but her figure is stunning; in my innocent days, I swore, “I’m going to be like that!” Well, I’ll wait until I’m reborn.

The song portrays a woman who brings him down, yet the late Princess Diana, who heard it live, was reportedly delighted.

And then there’s another woman, Diana Ross—perhaps it’s love turned inside out, or maybe…

Released in February 1988 as the fourth single from BAD.

Siedah Garrett—who also collaborated on the album’s “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You”—wrote the lyrics and contributed backing vocals.

It can be considered Michael’s first full-fledged gospel-style track.

At the 1988 Grammy Awards, he performed the song with a gospel choir behind him, looking almost like a priest singing, dancing, and praying.

Personally, it moves me to tears—it’s my favorite ballad.

A track credited as the first song on the 1979 album Off the Wall with music producer Quincy Jones.

Quincy skillfully sets Michael’s clear, translucent falsetto against a light, upbeat groove—as expected from him.

It’s also interesting that Michael’s brother Randy and Janet Jackson—who was later even rumored by some to be the same person as Michael—appear together on the track on percussion.

It’s included on the album “BAD,” and was also made into a short film in Michael’s first starring movie, “Moonwalker.” The song’s somewhat nostalgic tone is very pleasant, but in the visuals, various rumors about Michael fly around comically: “He has a room for Elizabeth Taylor,” “He owns the Elephant Man’s bones,” and of course, “about his plastic surgery.” In the end, he destroys a theme park that’s like a mass of rumors, as if he were Gulliver.

Perhaps it’s the fate that comes with being a mega-star.

I Want You BackMaikeru Jakuson

A song released in November ’69 as their debut single from Motown Records.

In Japan, it’s titled “Kaette Hoshii no” (“I Want You Back”).

This track has also been sampled by many artists, including Jay-Z.

On the album version it fades out, but that final shout from Michael—“I want you back!”—is irresistible.

Honestly, “Michael, I want you back.” At the time, Michael was publicly said to be eight years old, but he was actually eleven.
