We’ll put together playlists of the much-anticipated lineup for Kyoto’s summer rock festival, Kyoto Daisakusen 2016!

The Stage of Genji (1–10)

My Instant SongMONOEYES

A new band led by Takeshi Hosomi, the frontman of ELLEGARDEN and the HIATUS.

They released a CD last year, and this year MONOEYES—along with WANIMA, who are also appearing at Daisakusen—have been confirmed to perform at festivals nationwide with unstoppable momentum.

They’re an incredibly hot band right now.

I mean, it’s only natural—Hosomi is doing punk again.

RHYMESTER – Human Crossroads
Human CrossingRHYMESTER

We are RHYMESTER, formed in 1989 and a driving force in Japan’s hip-hop scene.

With ties to the rock scene as well, we collaborated with 10-FEET—the organizers of Kyoto Daisakusen—on their collaboration album 6-FEET 2.

Our own annual festival, Ningen Kousaten (Human Crossroads), also receives great reviews.

There might be some kind of collaboration on the day of the event too, so look forward to it.

Golden GraffitiROTTENGRAFFTY

ROTTENGRAFFTY is a five-piece rock band from Kyoto.

Having overcome various hardships and continued without any lineup changes since their formation, their live shows are on a whole different level of intensity.

When it comes to their signature songs, this one surely stands out.

It’s catchy and makes you want to move your body and enjoy the show.

Their performances at the annual Kyoto Daisakusen festival are always incredible.

BIG UPWANIMA

BIG UPWANIMA

WANIMA is a three-piece band that, alongside MONOEYES, has been storming festivals across Japan.

They made a big splash from the start by debuting on PIZZA OF DEATH, the label led by Hi-Standard’s Ken Yokoyama.

Their trademark is a mix of “wholesome songs” and “sexy songs,” and that contrast might be one of the secrets to their popularity.

This track falls into the “sexy song” category.

Break Throughdustbox

dustbox is a three-piece melodic band formed in 1996.

With songs brimming with speed, aggressive guitar riffs, and catchy melodies, they’re a textbook example of melodic hardcore.

Their live shows power through song after song, keeping the energy high and the crowd fired up without a moment’s rest.
