Since discovering music during my school days, I’ve mainly listened to Japanese and Korean pop. MONKEY MAJIK is a rock band known for hit songs like “Sora wa Marude.” Formed in Aomori in 2000, the band went through member changes and now consists of Canadian brothers Maynard Plant (vocals/guitar) and Blaise Plant, along with Japanese members DICK on bass and tax on drums—a hybrid four-piece.

They rose to fame with the hit “Around The World,” the theme song for the drama Saiyuki.

Their music features beautiful, Japanese-focused lyrics and catchy melodies.

At the same time, their covers and collaborations with celebrities and artists showcase a free-spirited sense of fun that’s a big part of MONKEY MAJIK’s appeal.

MONKEY MAJIK is a four-piece rock band from Aomori Prefecture formed in 2000.

The band’s name comes from Godiego’s song “Monkey Magic,” which was used in the TV drama Saiyuki.

The group currently consists of Canadian and Japanese members, but in the past it also included German and British members, giving it a multinational character.

This song portrays the feelings of a man nervously wondering whether he’ll receive chocolates on Valentine’s Day.
