Natalie Cole’s famous and popular songs

Let me introduce some songs by Natalie Cole, the American singer-songwriter who passed away in 2015.

Known for her sexy and beautiful voice, she is also famous as the daughter of Nat King Cole, the legendary jazz pianist and vocalist.

Although she disliked being seen merely as “Nat King Cole’s daughter” and intentionally pursued a different musical path from her father, as she grew older she began to take pride in being his daughter.

In 1991, she released Unforgettable…

with Love, a collection of covers of her father’s songs, and drew tremendous attention by realizing a posthumous duet with him through overdubbing.

Now, please enjoy the music of Natalie Cole, a singer who inherited remarkable DNA and overcame the pressure that came with it.

Natalie Cole’s classic and popular songs (21–30)

Someone That I Used To LoveNatarī Kōru

Lyrics by Gerry Goffin and music by Michael Masser.

It’s a song so delicate and imbued with a uniquely feminine softness that it’s hard to believe it was written by a man.

It reached No.

21 for two consecutive weeks starting September 20, 1980.

Barbra Streisand later covered the song as well.

UnforgettableNatarī Kōru

This is a song covering one of Nat King Cole’s classics, by his daughter Natalie Cole.

In a 1977 interview with Rolling Stone, Natalie said, “I had to sing my own songs, in my own way.” Up to that point, as the daughter of the preeminent jazz pianist King, she had deliberately avoided singing jazz ballads.

But after overcoming various hardships in life and growing older, she came to feel comfortable embracing her identity as King’s daughter, and began to sing her father’s songs.

Peaked at No.

5 in the U.S.

in 1988.

This hit marked a splendid comeback after nearly a decade of stagnation following her great success in the ’70s.

Natalie, weighed down by various pressures—including being the daughter of Nat King Cole—was struggling mentally, but she found success by covering a Bruce Springsteen song (originally the B-side of Dancing in the Dark).

I was amazed that a Boss track could become this danceable.

This is a song known in Japan as “Itsumo Sayonara o,” composed as an interlude number for the 1944 revue Seven Lively Arts.

In line with the lyrics, the chord progression actually shifts from major to minor.
