Introducing the theme and insert songs from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind!
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind is a Studio Ghibli film based on the manga of the same name that Miyazaki serialized in Animage.
It tells the story of Nausicaä, a girl who can communicate with insects.
Music from Ghibli works is always memorable, but the melodies in Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind are especially distinctive—many people find they leave a strong impression.
If you haven’t seen the film yet, please give the music a listen.

Nausicaä of the Valley of the WindNarumi Yasuda

The true theme song of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.
What do I mean by “true theme song”? It wasn’t used in the actual film at all.
You might think, “How can that be a theme song!?” but in reality this track was only used for promotional purposes.
A must-listen for Ghibli aficionados! By the way, the singer, Narumi Yasuda, is the wife of Tunnels’ Noritake Kinashi.
Legend of the WindJoe Hisaishi

This is a piece used in Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.
I love the moment when it shifts from the clamorous atmosphere at the beginning to the gentle piano melody.
It fits perfectly with the world of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, and I think it’s one of the best tracks.
It’s a song that really appeals to the emotions.
To a faraway land...Joe Hisaishi

The subtitle is “Nausicaä’s Theme.” This song title is also the name of the soundtrack album and serves as an image piece for the film Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.
It’s a grand symphonic work that begins with the striking intro of “Nausicaä Requiem.” Hats off to Studio Ghibli (though they weren’t yet operating under the Ghibli name) for undertaking such a fully-fledged classical soundtrack for an animated work.

Valley of the WindJoe Hisaishi
When you hear “Valley of the Wind,” what do you imagine? Perhaps a scene where a refreshing breeze flows between mountain ranges.
This track captures exactly that feeling.
With Indian percussion, it has a subtly Arabian vibe.
Though the sound is laid-back, it offers more than just relaxation—you can feel the powerful force of nature.
Highly recommended.
MehveJoe Hisaishi

Among the captivating mechanical designs in the film ‘Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind,’ the most beautiful is the Mehve, a flight device with large white wings.
Its graceful curves make it a perfect machine for the lovely Nausicaä to ride.
Here is the soundtrack used when Nausicaä glides on her Mehve.
It’s a light, lively piece that conveys the exhilarating feeling of soaring through the open sky.
In the Sea of CorruptionJoe Hisaishi

The introduction of “In the Sea of Decay” is structured in a way that evokes the gagaku piece “Etenraku.” Although the scene depicts the Sea of Decay that drives people to their deaths, the music conveys a solemn beauty.
Even while portraying the heavy theme of a polluted natural world after chemical warfare, it never loses hope—perhaps because the soundtrack’s melodies carry a faint glimmer of it.
Giant God Warrior ~ The Tolmekian Army ~ Princess KushanaJoe Hisaishi
Many people may not have seen Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, yet still know the Giant Warriors.
With their enormous bodies and inorganic appearance, they leave a strong impression.
Their image song is imagination itself! The sound has a somewhat solemn, even ominous atmosphere—full of mystery.
Even though the tempo isn’t fast, doesn’t it make you feel as if a Giant Warrior is approaching from the distance? It’s a track that whisks you away from reality straight into a bewitched realm.
