Dutch Music | Introducing the Latest Tracks and Timeless Classics!

The Netherlands is one of the countries where street music is especially well developed.

I think many people in Japan know that musicians from all over the world head to Dutch streets to earn money.

That said, while it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call the Netherlands a country of music, there probably aren’t many people who are familiar with its music scene.

Dutch pop music is very diverse, with a wide range of works! Each piece is full of personality, so if you like distinctive melodies, be sure to check it out!

Euro pop sparked a boom in Japan as well.

While many people associate it strongly with Italy, the Netherlands actually has a highly developed euro-pop scene too.

One of the most popular artists in the Dutch euro-pop scene is Luna.

One of her biggest hits, “Vamos a la playa,” is euro pop distilled into a catchy melody, and it gained worldwide popularity.

Sandra van Nieuwland is a Dutch artist whose impressive expressive range shines as she switches between soft and powerful vocals.

While her music is rooted in pop, it leans more stylish than straightforwardly pop, and her style is reminiscent of the British singer Adele.

Among her works, I especially recommend Hunter—a sophisticated track where the serious melody and her exceptional expressiveness fit together perfectly.

The Gathering is a Dutch rock band active worldwide.

They initially focused on heavy metal, then shifted to gothic metal, and later to a trip-influenced gothic rock, yet they’ve continued to thrive in every era—a truly remarkable band.

Their song Leaves is one of their classics, notable for its unique dark atmosphere that blends gothic metal with trip elements.

If you like ominous, brooding tracks, this is a must-check.

The Dutch artist Waylon, who has gained popularity with a catchy blend of pop and rock, has a devoted following.

As some might have noticed from his appearance, he’s also an ardent fan of Waylon Jennings, which is why his music carries strong country influences.

One of his standout tracks is Love Drunk.

The way it builds from a gentle melody to an electrifying climax, culminating in husky shouts, is truly breathtaking.

Edsilia Rombley is a female singer from the Netherlands.

She originally belonged to a girl group, but after leaving it she has been active across a wide range of fields, from television personality work to music.

Artists who also work as TV personalities can sometimes be seen as second-rate, but she has exceptionally strong vocal ability.

Her tone in particular is outstanding, and her low, whispery voice carries very deep expressiveness.

Her track “Weak” showcases her impressive singing and expressive power, resulting in a dark piece of Black music.

In conclusion

This time we’ve introduced Dutch music ranging from the latest releases to timeless classics.

In the Netherlands, in addition to Dutch and English, there are artists who sing in Arabic, and the diversity of languages is matched by a wide variety of musical styles.

So perhaps you felt that breadth not only in the English-language scene but beyond as well.

Rag Music also has articles introducing music from other lesser-known countries, so be sure to check them out.
