Eternity of grunge. A classic by Nirvana (NIRVANA)

Let me introduce some songs by Nirvana, the very definition of grunge rock.

As the band of Kurt Cobain—who, despite his musical success, struggled deeply and died young—they have become an icon of alternative rock worldwide.

Although he passed away in 1994, many artists still cover their songs to this day.

There are countless aspects to their appeal, but surely the greatest is Kurt Cobain’s voice.

Please take this article as an opportunity to once again experience the allure of Nirvana, the band that revolutionized the rock scene.

Grunge Forever: Nirvana’s Greatest Songs (41–50)

CurmudgeonNirvana

This song, included alongside a live version of “Been a Son” on the 12-inch single “Lithium” released in 1992, was written by Kurt Cobain about not being welcomed by the environment, particularly in school.

SCOFFNirvana

The 8th track on their debut album “Bleach.” The lyrics, which take a defiant stance of not caring how others see you, could be described as quintessentially youthful.

Musically, it features simple drums and guitar, with Kurt shouting in the chorus—a structure that makes it regarded as one of the representative songs from that period.

Spank ThruNirvana

It wasn’t included on any album, but it’s surely one of their early classics.

Unusually for Nirvana, it incorporates a slightly funky rhythm.

The heavy guitars gradually intertwine, the sound gets louder and transforms into a distinctly grunge vibe, with Kurt Cobain shouting his lungs out.

The Money Will Roll Right InNirvana

This song is a cover of the legendary punk rock band FANG, active in the 1980s.

Kurt Cobain sings it with a languid tone to match the punk rock sound.

It’s included on a live CD, but there’s no official studio recording.

However, Nirvana often performed this song live.

Big CheeseNirvana

A song written by Kurt Cobain that many people speculate is about Jonathan Poneman, the producer at Sub Pop.

It was included as the B-side to Nirvana’s first single, “Love Buzz,” released in 1988.
