[For Senior Care Facilities] Fun! Recommended Events for October

In October, the heat eases and there are more days when the sunlight feels gentle.

There are also plenty of activities like autumn sports festivals and Sports Day, as well as seasonal events such as the Harvest Moon and Halloween.

October is full of fun.

Why not plan recreational events that let older adults enjoy the atmosphere of October?

Here are some event ideas, full of October flair, that seniors can enjoy.

Let’s bring seasonal joy to seniors, who may spend similar days, through events that highlight the time of year!

[For Elderly Care Facilities] Fun! Recommended Events in October (31–40)

prisoner

I went to USJ Horror Night dressed in a prisoner costume!

You might think, “A prisoner costume?” but it’s actually a classic and super easy option! When you think of prisoners, you think of striped clothing.

So just wearing a striped top and bottom completes the costume.

If you want to go the extra mile, try adding fake blood and other touches.

If you don’t mind makeup, zombie-style makeup is also recommended.

Looking a bit dirty rather than perfectly clean makes it more convincing, so try using clothes you don’t mind messing up for the costume.

Eyeball-carrying relay

[Halloween Game] Eyeball Relay
Eyeball-carrying relay

Let me introduce the Eyeball Relay—a game that’s not only fun but a little spooky.

Do you know the ping-pong ball relay? It’s very similar.

First, several players line up side by side, each holding a spoon.

The person at one end places a ping-pong ball designed to look like an eyeball onto their spoon.

They then pass it to the next person’s spoon, and the receiver passes it on to the next, and so on down the line.

It’s great for building teamwork when everyone cooperates, and it would also be exciting to split into two teams and compete.

Potato Digging and Roasted Sweet Potatoes

Let's Dig Sweet Potatoes and Make Roasted Sweet Potatoes♪ Fun Even in Senior Care Facilities! | Horticultural Therapy in Practice
Potato Digging and Roasted Sweet Potatoes

Let’s have seniors experience two classic autumn activities: digging up sweet potatoes and making roasted sweet potatoes! Seasonal events like these help stimulate the brain of older adults, who may find it harder to sense the changing seasons, so they’re highly recommended.

Plus, the digging motion is a great full-body exercise that uses both arms.

After trying the potato digging, make roasted sweet potatoes and enjoy them together.

Involving participants in steps like wrapping the potatoes in aluminum foil can help them feel a sense of accomplishment and enjoy the tasting even more.

Little Red Riding Hood

A belated solo Halloween… the tale of me dressing up as Little Red Riding Hood
Little Red Riding Hood

This is a Little Red Riding Hood costume, isn’t it? When most people hear “Little Red Riding Hood,” they probably think of the Brothers Grimm tale.

The girl in the story wears a red hood, right? It’s a popular Halloween costume among girls and women who like cute styles, but why not have older adults join in too and relive their childhood by dressing up? Just drape a large red cloth over your head and carry a basket with flowers, and you’ve got a fine Little Red Riding Hood costume.

It’s easy and I highly recommend it!

Demon Slayer: Tanjiro

[Demon Slayer] Huntress - Ancient Capital Cosplay vol.2 [Cosplay Performance]
Demon Slayer: Tanjiro

How about cosplaying as Tanjiro Kamado, the protagonist of the hugely popular manga and anime Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba that became a social phenomenon? Tanjiro’s trademark is his green-and-black checkered haori.

You can make it yourself, but since the series is so popular, there are plenty of adult-sized costumes available for purchase.

Under the haori, he wears the Demon Slayer Corps uniform, but if you don’t have anything similar, a black turtleneck and pants will do the trick! Then tuck a toy katana from a 100-yen shop into your belt.

If you’re planning to meet kids on Halloween, they’ll be thrilled and shout, “It’s Tanjiro!”

Demon Slayer: Nezuko

Demon Slayer: Nezuko Kamado Kimono Making Guide – DIY costume for Halloween and cosplay, available in various sizes for adults and children. kimetsunoyaiba Demon Slayer 鬼滅之刃
Demon Slayer: Nezuko

This is a cosplay costume of Nezuko Kamado, the younger sister of Tanjiro Kamado, the protagonist of the hugely popular series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.

Nezuko wears a pink kimono with a hemp-leaf pattern.

Since Demon Slayer became a massive hit, it should be fairly easy to find fabric if you want to make it yourself.

Of course, ready-made cosplay costumes are also available.

Either is fine to wear, but one thing you must not forget for a Nezuko costume is the bamboo muzzle! For certain reasons, Nezuko has become a demon, the natural enemy of humans.

To avoid harming people, she bites down on a piece of bamboo.

That said, you don’t actually need to bite it—attach a string and let it hang from your neck.

Halloween Dracula

A classic Halloween costume: Dracula! Dracula outfits are popular with everyone from kids to adults, and there are many different types sold in stores.

The must-have items for a Dracula costume are a black cape with a red lining and a white shirt.

A shirt with decoration around the collar looks even more Dracula-like.

If possible, prepare fangs as well.

You’ll need to make or buy the cape, but a shirt you already own is fine.

For a makeup touch, make your face pale to add an extra eerie effect!
