Pen spinning

10 Cool Mechanical Pencil Tricks in a Row! Absolutely Doable Even for Girls! How to Do Pen Spinning and Tips
Pen spinning

Many of you probably used to do pen spinning at school, right? It looks simple but is actually quite tricky, though there were always people who could spin it effortlessly! This time, we’re introducing pen spinning.

These days there are lots of cool tricks—and they even have official names! It takes practice to make it a proper party trick, but since many people practiced it back in their school days, if you pull it off, you’re sure to get a chorus of “Whoa!”

ADR gag

We tested whether I could dub all of my partner’s one-shot gags—and a miracle happened.
ADR gag

This is a one-shot gag performed by a duo.

First, one person silently acts out the routine, and the other jumps in with, “Oh, I know that bit!” and adds dubbed lines to match the repeated movements, turning it into a performance.

Even without the dubbing, the movements and facial expressions are funny, but adding the voiceover makes it even better.

If you prepare several different voiceovers for the same set of movements, the exact same actions can turn into completely different jokes that really land.

It takes a lot of preparation, but if you love gags and have the time, definitely give it a try!

The tablecloth pull is a classic party trick.

You can do it with glasses and plates on a regular table, but if you want to make it more of a gag, why not try it on someone’s stomach or head? Tell them, “Don’t move no matter what,” drape a cloth over them, set a glass of beer on top, and then—pull the tablecloth.

If you fail, the person standing in for the table will get wet, but if you succeed, you’ll get a huge round of applause.

And even if you fail, everyone will burst into laughter with a “I knew it!” vibe.

It’s perfect for people who get nervous about having to succeed and would rather get laughs even if they mess up!

Are you familiar with Tsuntsuku-Tsun Expo, a young comedy duo from the agency Grape Company, which also represents Sandwichman? If you’re a comedy fan, you probably already know their “Pizza Man” bit.

If the two of you are going to do a quick gag together, how about perfectly copying their “Pizza Man” routine? It’s packed with elements that will help you out—there’s the pathos of the salaryman and a fun tune introducing pizza.

First, watch it over and over to memorize the bit.

It’s a slightly nonsensical gag world, so the trick is to perform it confidently without feeling embarrassed!

How about doing a manzai comedy routine? Imitating professional material is great, and mixing in everyday “relatable” stories makes it feel more familiar and helps spark laughter.

Team up with a friend or colleague, brainstorm ideas, and practice together—it can also improve your communication skills.

By practicing with an awareness of line pacing and the timing of punchlines, you’ll polish your craft and generate more laughs.

If you’re performing at a drinking party or a get-together, taking audience suggestions could be fun too.

Give it a try as a one-shot crowd-pleaser and grab everyone’s attention!

Hanako Okabe’s food review

Hanako Okabe’s buzzworthy “food review act” gets play-by-play and color commentary from Kikuta and Akiyama!? Suntory Tennensui Presso web video: “The Proper Food Review Masters Match”
Hanako Okabe’s food review

Hanako is a comedy trio that has achieved strong results in numerous prize competitions, including winning King of Conte in 2018.

A highly recommended bit for a one-shot gag they do is food reporting.

Just doing a straightforward food report isn’t funny, but if you study a wide variety of food reports—especially Okabe from Hanako’s reports—and first learn to deliver an absolutely perfect food report, it works great.

Also, prepare a person to play the role of explaining that food report.

By having that person commentate on the food report performed by the one playing Okabe, you can get another good laugh!

Hanzawa Naoki’s facial expressions

Following the massive success of season 1, the drama Hanzawa Naoki became a huge hit in season 2 as well.

A host of acclaimed actors appeared, and their striking, idiosyncratic performances became a hot topic.

Alongside those performances, what captivated many viewers were the facial expressions! Of course, the actors were earnestly committed to their roles, but the intensity that arose made it impossible not to notice how they used their faces.

From right after the broadcast, many comedians began doing impressions, and it’s no exaggeration to call it a go-to one-shot gag now.

If you’re going to try it yourself, rewatch Hanzawa Naoki and study the comedians who imitate it—then go all in, even to the point of overdoing it!
