What would you do, if it were you?Abe Mao

Abe Mao’s 18th single overall, released in August 2019.

It’s a very straightforward rock song that makes you feel refreshed when you listen to it.

The melody is very simple with no difficult progressions, so even those who aren’t confident singers should be fine singing it at karaoke! However, while you might not feel it’s that high because of her vocal timbre, the highest note in the chorus can be tough for some people, so please be a bit careful with the key setting at karaoke.

That said, I think the best way to enjoy this song is to forget the nitty-gritty and just go with the groove!

This song sings about a one-sided feeling: the person I like has someone else they like.

Mao Abe’s “Yada” is included on her third album, “Su.” released in 2011.

You can almost sense a grudge-like resentment toward the person that the one she likes has feelings for; it can even sound a bit like a lament.

But this is surely a straightforward feeling everyone has—anyone can end up resenting or envying someone and feeling this way.

Still, the song also conveys the sad emotion of not being able to hate them no matter what.

Included on Mao Abe’s first cover album, “MY INNER CHILD MUSEUM,” which was released in January 2021.

The original song is a so-called Vocaloid track sung by Hatsune Miku, first published in 2011.

Vocaloid songs are originally composed without regard for the human vocal range, but Mao Abe masterfully delivers this kind of piece with her powerful high-tone voice.

This powerful high register isn’t something you can easily pull off just by “singing high,” so if you’re having trouble, it might be helpful to refer to the original Vocaloid version as well.

And if you want to further polish your proud high notes, I’ll be waiting for you in my vocal training sessions!

Singer-songwriter Mao Abe, known for delivering highly distinctive message songs to her listeners.

“The Hero About to Die and the Nail-in-Rice Bran Man,” included on her 2017 album Babe., is a rock number packed with aggressive intent.

Its straightforward, passionate band sound leaves a strong impression.

The emotional lyrics, which truly express a rock spirit, are heart-stirring.

Among her works, this is an especially energetic hero song—be sure to give it a listen.

These lyrics express the sudden urge to see the person you love, and I can relate to the delicate sensitivity of a girl who feels she can’t be okay without someone she likes.

I think many girls would like to emulate the proactive spirit in this song—going to see him with nothing but her own determination.

Rather than the meaning of life, it’s a song that shows, through examples, what it means to “live.” Even if you think you’ll manage on your own in your heart, you can’t lie about the feeling that, in the end, you’re waiting for someone.

Don’t try to do it all alone.

You are not alone.
