The duo Aming, who brought a fresh breeze to the Showa-era folk-pop scene, still capture the hearts of many listeners today.
Their debut single, released in July 1982, was a massive hit—topping the Oricon weekly chart for six consecutive weeks and becoming the best-selling single of the year.
Known for its bittersweet lyrics about unrequited love and refreshingly clear harmonies, it’s a song almost everyone in Japan has heard at least once.
The track has also been featured in numerous commercials, including those for Toyota and NTT Docomo.
This timeless classic beloved across generations is also a great choice to sing at karaoke.

Aming is a female duo consisting of Takako Okamura and Haruko Kato that had been inactive since 1983.
“Himawari” (Sunflower) is the song they released in 2007 when they resumed activities, their first new track in 25 years.
It’s a very refreshing song in which a woman—hung up on trivial things and unable to move forward—finds courage in the sunflower that keeps stretching toward the unreachable sun.

I was surprised to see the two members of Aming duetting on “Yume wo Akiramenai de,” but while their solo work is great, this has a pure and truly lovely feel too.
The two of them look effortlessly beautiful in white blouses and jeans, simple yet very elegant.
Being able to grow older like this is just the best, isn’t it?

A song included on the 1983 album “P.S.
Anata e…” by Aming, the duo of Takako Okamura and Haruko Kato.
This track is Haruko Kato’s solo number.
It was originally released by singer-songwriter Junko Yagami, and its mood differs slightly from Yagami’s version.
The lyrics express a poignant longing for a loved one from whom the singer parted on a cold winter day.

A female duo from Aichi Prefecture who debuted in 1982.
Their group name comes from the café “Anmin” that appears in a song by Masashi Sada.
The duo’s harmonies, sung over a quiet and gentle melody, are truly beautiful and calming to listen to.
