A mid-tempo number where the loneliness that drifts through the night city intersects with thoughts of someone special.

Wandering down an unfamiliar street, narrowing their eyes through cigarette smoke, the protagonist’s wavering emotions are vividly captured in lyrics by Akiko Fukuoka.

Eriko Hashimoto’s soaring vocals deliver a stinging blend of bitterness and wistfulness—a song that conveys the complexities of a woman’s heart.

Released as a single in November 2008, it was written as the theme song for the late-night NTV drama “Tonsura.” It also drew attention for being the first time Seiji Kameda served as producer, and it broke into the top 10 on the Oricon charts.

It has become a signature track, repeatedly included on releases such as the album “Kokuhaku” and various best-of compilations.

A song that stays by your side on nights when love leaves you swaying and you want to cherish your time alone.

It’s included on the double A-side single “Negai / Higher Ground,” released on December 11, 2019, and was written as the theme song for the TV Asahi drama Ossan’s Love -in the sky-.

The overall vocal range of the song is A2–A4.

While there are high notes, you don’t need to belt them; using falsetto is fine.

The tempo isn’t too fast either, so it should be comfortable to sing.

For the low notes in the first verse, make sure to use plenty of breath and push the sound forward so it resonates without sounding muffled.

Since the melody gradually rises toward the chorus, keeping your facial muscles lifted and singing with a bright tone will help you switch into the higher register smoothly.

The classic “Sōshi Sōai” is a masterpiece that sings of a pitiful man’s heart.

Unlike many of Official HIGE DANDism’s recent unconventional tracks, this song is crafted as orthodox J-pop.

The elements of Black music—one of their trademarks—are also subtle here, and the vocal line throughout is organized to be very easy to sing.

However, since it sits overall in a higher register, a certain level of vocal height is required.

Fortunately, the range isn’t excessively wide, so as long as you determine the suitable key, it’s a piece that most people can take on.

flighty feelingback number88rank/position

A song that sings as if resigning oneself to infidelity, piercing straight into the heart.

It’s a track by back number, the three-piece band behind numerous hits like “Takane no Hanako-san,” “Christmas Song,” and “Suiheisen,” and it’s included on their first album, “Ato no Matsuri,” released in 2010.

The lyrics feel like a raw outpouring of true feelings, and the vocals carry a sense of grim despair as well.

You can clearly feel the conviction that “there’s no forgiveness anymore.”

RomanticismMrs. GREEN APPLE89rank/position

A celebrated song by Mrs.

GREEN APPLE that refreshingly captures summer romance.

Released in April 2019, it weaves together the many forms of love—like the excitement of love at first sight, the frustration of being unable to confess your feelings, and the courage to keep moving forward—alongside a buoyant melody.

Chosen as the commercial song for Shiseido’s body care brand SEA BREEZE, its catchy sound and highly relatable lyrics resonated with young listeners and made it one of the band’s signature tracks.

It’s perfect not only for walks, but also for those moments when you need a little push to take the first step in love.

Precious thingsroodo obu mejyaa90rank/position

This is a captivating track featuring a heart-pounding, exhilarating rock sound and passionate lyrics about the bonds between friends.

It’s perfect for spring, when farewells and new encounters intertwine and you want to etch your unchanging feelings into your heart! Released in August 2002 as Road of Major’s indie debut, it stayed in the Oricon Top 10 for an incredible 19 consecutive weeks and sold around 900,000 copies.

It’s a foundational number for the band, also included on the album “ROAD OF MAJOR.” If you’re feeling anxious about a new environment but want to turn cherished memories into strength and move forward, this is a must-listen.

Its warm encouragement is sure to powerfully support your new chapter!

Looking only at the range, “Apollodorus” spans quite wide from D3 to E5, but the highest note appears just once in the chorus as falsetto; you’ll basically be singing around D4 in chest voice! The rhythm is distinctive and the tempo is on the faster side at 184, so if you jump straight into singing it, it might be a bit tricky to sight-sing… It’s important to listen to the song thoroughly.

There are sections in 4/4 and in 3/4, so try listening while clapping along.

If you can nail the rhythm and tempo, I think you’ll be able to sing it perfectly! Another key point is the accents.

It’s important to notice where you naturally clap stronger while you’re clapping along to the groove; those spots are where the accents fall.

Make sure to place those accents when you sing, too!
