Now dominating Japan’s loud rock scene with overwhelming popularity, coldrain are a band I just have to introduce as an emo act as well.

Their heavy sound, backed by a solid, weighty rhythm section, and the beautiful melodic lines woven by vocalist Masato’s fluid singing are must-hear.

His shouts, which sometimes ring out as if overflowing with emotion, are intense and downright cool.

Their soundcraft—like that of a Western emo band—is something only they could pull off!

A track from the 2016 single VENA II.

The band’s sound, which had strongly projected a metallic, solid, and cold image, has been toned down a bit, shifting toward a somewhat more natural and warmer feel.

The music video features overseas actors, further highlighting their growing international orientation.

From Todaycoldrain31rank/position

A coldrain track where intense sounds and beautiful melodies intertwine.

The heavy guitar tones, Masato’s powerful shouts, and his delicate clean vocals fuse together in exquisite balance.

The lyrics convey a strong will to protect one’s own light while confronting fear and despair.

Included on the album “Nonnegative,” released in July 2022, it was also used in a SHARP AQUOS XLED commercial.

If you want to awaken the fighting spirit hidden in your heart, why not give this song a listen?

A track from their 1st album, “Final Destination.” With a heavy drop-C tuning, emotional melodies, and a break that’s guaranteed to blow up the crowd live, their signature sound was already fully formed at this relatively early stage.

Final Desitinationcoldrain33rank/position

It’s a song that charges forward with the same intensity from start to finish.

As you’d expect from the rock that’s popular right now, it’s characterized by the coexistence of a heavy tone and a fast, driving tempo.

It really makes you want to headbang at a live show.

Pretty Little Liarcoldrain34rank/position

It’s a song that mixes in rhythms like triplets, which are rare in today’s band scene.

Incorporating a different groove like this is a fresh approach, and I personally really like it.

No matter which rhythm pattern they use, their signature heaviness of sound remains intact.

This song has even been used as BGM for pachinko machines—there’s no doubt it’ll get you pumped.

The heavy backing sound really brings out the beautiful vocals, making it an exciting yet easy-to-listen-to track.

coldrain are masterful at dynamics, and this is definitely a song you should hear live!
