A nostalgic song for moms’ and dads’ generation, Dango San Kyodai.

It’s a very unique tune about three close-knit brothers, sung to a tango rhythm.

It was the January 1999 song, performed at the time by big brother Kentaro Hayami and big sister Ayumi Shigemori.

There are many popular songs from Okaasan to Issho, but this one was such a huge hit that it briefly became a social phenomenon.

The lyrics, which sing about the three brothers’ personalities, daily lives, and feelings, are easy to remember, and I think kids today can enjoy singing it, too.

The next time you have skewered dango, why not give it a sing?

The ending theme of the puppet show “Doremifa Donuts!,” set on Donuts Island near Niko-Niko Island—the setting of the previous work “Niko Niko, Pun”—is “Doremifa Ressha.” The main vocals were performed by Kentarō Hayami, the 8th “Uta no Onii-san,” and Ayumi Shigemori, the 17th “Uta no Onee-san.” It’s a groovy, funky number featuring slap bass and cutting guitar.

As the title suggests, it uses many sound effects that evoke trains, such as locomotive whistles and chuffing steam sounds.

Dad is always awake.Hayami Kentarō, Shigemori Ayumi3rank/position

A song from “Okaasan to Issho” that’s not so common: one with a dad theme.

Even when you wake up in the middle of the night or can’t get out of bed in the morning, Dad is always up.

Dad gently strokes your head.

Knowing their child is watching them like this would surely make dads feel, “All right, I’ll do my best!”

The song I’d love for you to sing when the rain clears and the weather turns nice is “Niji no Mukou ni” (“Beyond the Rainbow”).

It was created by singer-songwriter Osamu Sakata, who has provided many songs for Okaasan to Issho.

Rainbows that appear after the rain have such a mysterious feeling, and they make you wonder, “What’s over there, beyond that?”—it fills you with excitement, doesn’t it? That kind of dream-filled, positive scene is depicted in this song.

It’s also popular as a hand-play song, so be sure to add the motions and sing it brightly and energetically!

Atsuko Ono, the 21st “Uta no Oneesan” on NHK Educational TV’s “Okaasan to Issho,” made her debut with the song “Aou yo!” The composer is Kentaro Hayami, who was active as the 8th “Uta no Onii-san.” On the program, the big brother and big sister performed choreography that included waving their hands and stepping with their feet.

I think younger children look adorable just moving their bodies to the music.

By all means, try arranging the dance in different ways and enjoy it together.

This is the song that was used as the opening theme for TOS Television Oita, sung by Kentaro Hayami, a former ‘Uta no Onii-san’ (the Singing Big Brother).

The choreography was created by Hiromichi Sato, the former ‘Taiso no Onii-san’ (the Gymnastics Big Brother), so it’s a must-listen for fans of ‘Okaasan to Issho.’

“Mach GoGoGo” is an anime about car racing by Tatsunoko Production, and it was also adapted into a live-action film in the United States.

The opening theme of the second series, which aired in 1997, is sung by Kentaro Hayami, known as one of the ‘Uta no Onii-san’ (a children’s TV singing host).

Emergency launch!! OhrangerHayami Kentarō8rank/position

Released to the world in April 1995 as an ending theme, this Super Sentai song is a fiery number powered by Kentaro Hayami’s bright, straightforward vocals that resonate in the heart.

Commands for emergency launch—like “Scramble!” and “Take off!”—fly one after another, portraying the courage to face challenges together with your teammates.

The lyrics, infused with imagery of soaring higher than birds and faster than the clouds, convey dreams and the spirit of challenge to children.

Issued as a single by Nippon Columbia in April 1995, it was delivered as the coupling track to the opening theme.

Selected as the ending theme for TV Asahi’s “Choriki Sentai Ohranger,” it has been cherished long after the broadcast ended, appearing in commemorative collections and more.

It’s a song that not only captivates children who admire heroes, but also, for adults who grew up with the Sentai series, brings back the excitement of those days.

Atsumare! Egao (Gather, Smiles!) was released as the song for February 1999.

The lyrics and music were written by Kentaro Hayami, who was serving as the “Uta no Onii-san” at the time.

It’s such an uplifting tune that makes you want to grab a friend’s hand and start running! Children have all kinds of personalities—some can play with friends right away, while others have a hard time joining in or speaking up.

At times like that, how about singing this song together? It might be a chance to start caring more about other friends.

Flamenco of the WindHayami Kentarō, Shigemori Ayumi10rank/position

Set to an authentic flamenco melody, this song describes how it feels to be wobbly and weak from a cold.

It portrays a child’s feelings as they suffer through the hardships of a cold—sneezing, running a fever, feeling awful—yet still hating the idea of getting a shot.
