Is it an overstatement to say that without the Pixies, many bands—Nirvana among them—might never have found success? From the late ’80s into the early ’90s, the Pixies crafted an original guitar sound and earned fervent support from musicians across genres.

Personally, I see them as the most crucial bridge between the ’80s underground scene of idiosyncratic indie bands and the post-Nirvana alternative rock of the ’90s.

It’s also worth noting that they were recognized in the UK before their home country of the United States, releasing their work on the prestigious 4AD label.

Among the many classic songs the Pixies produced, I’d like to highlight Velouria, from their third album Bossanova, released in 1990, which brought them commercial success.

It became their first single to crack the UK Top 40 and is known as one of their signature tracks.

Undeniably pop yet twisted in some inexplicable way, it’s a killer tune whose peculiar sense of balance becomes utterly addictive once it hooks you—you just can’t escape its charm!
