A track that sings about a young teenage couple heading to New York by bus.

It has been covered by artists such as David Bowie, Sting, and U2.

Included on the 1970 album “Bridge over Troubled Water.” A New York–born music duo who debuted in 1964.

The “Tom” that appears at the beginning of the lyrics refers to Garfunkel.

The sound of the acoustic guitar and Simon’s understated vocals blend to create a beautiful harmony.

It’s a great song.

A Hazy Shade of WinterSimon&Garfunkel

When it comes to Western music for winter, we can’t help but point to this song.

Released in 1966 by Simon & Garfunkel, A Hazy Shade of Winter—also well known in Japan under the title “Fuyu no Sanpomichi” (Winter Promenade)—is a track many still remember as an insert song from the shocking 1994 TV drama Ningen Shikkaku: Tatoeba Boku ga Shindara.

Among Simon & Garfunkel’s works, known for their folky sound and beautiful harmonies, its most folk-rock-leaning, driving beat might be better suited to a road trip than a stroll.

In fact, the meaning of the original title differs from the Japanese title, and the lyrics, which poetically liken life to the four seasons and depict winter’s bleak scenery alongside an anxious state of mind, don’t evoke the leisurely mood suggested by the word “stroll,” but rather an almost harried sense of urgency.

If you’re driving while listening to this song, take care not to let it weigh too heavily on your thoughts!

The Japanese title is “El Condor Pasa (If I Could).” It’s an Andean folk song covered by the American folk-rock duo Simon & Garfunkel.

Among S&G’s many hits, I recommend this one for the sense of expansiveness it evokes toward the sky.

Simon & Garfunkel, a musical duo that had a major impact on folk music.

They were also extremely popular in Japan and are known as pioneers who helped spark the folk boom that swept from the 1960s to the 1970s.

One of their highly regarded hidden gems, The 59th Street Bridge Song, was released in 1966 and became a fan favorite.

It’s an impressive folk tune with a springtime theme, so be sure to check it out.

A Bridge to TomorrowSimon&Garfunkel13rank/position

A signature song by a duo that had an influence on the world comparable to The Beatles.

Art Garfunkel, famed for his angelic voice, is of course magnificent, but Paul Simon’s vocals and guitar technique—later showcased in his stellar solo career—are exceptional as well.

Every song, lyrics included, is a work of art, making them an artist whose entire catalog is worth listening to.

Mrs. RobinsonSimon&Garfunkel

It’s a classic by Simon & Garfunkel.

The gentle, soothing melody line is memorable, but it’s not a difficult song to sing and I’d say it’s well-suited for karaoke.

Bridge Over Troubled Water requires a lot of emotional expression, so I recommend this one instead.

Scarborough Fair is great too, though.
